    Hi guys,
Hope this is in the right place....
Just saw on the news how bad the flooding in Thailand has gotten. Seems Bangkok is bracing itself for flooding now. Myself and my boyfriend are due to travel to Thailand (Bangkok, Koh Samui and Koh Tao) on 15th November so I'm praying it doesnt get any worse!
Just wondering really if anyone has heard how bad it is and if its hit the islands yet? Or anyone have any experience with flooding in thailand in November?
    Thanks :D

Just back this week from Thailand.

There shouldn't be any issue with the south of the country. I was in Phi Phi and Krabi and there was no problem. All the flooding has occurred in recent weeks in the north (Chiang Mai etc) and travelled down-river to Bangkok.

With regards to Bangkok, I spent last weekend there before flying home; I was in the south of the city. At that stage the flooding had only occurred in the north of the city, but the river was level with the river-wall and so quite close to flooding. It depends really where you are staying.

You should also try to use Thai tourism and news agencies to get up-to-date info' as BBC News/Sky news like to generalise the floods giving the impression that the whole country is under water:-)

    Just keep checking up regularly

My Wife is from BKK & I have been there loads of times.

While not wanting to put any sort of a damper on Your holiday, a word of caution: While Ah Yeah is correct in saying that the islands haven't been hit, by the middle of November the monsoons will have finished in the areas now being flooded, the monsoons still are prevalent down south at the time You are there. You should still only have to shelter for a couple of hours a day & flooding doesn't seem to create the same havoc being experienced further up country now, still don't expect fully dry days, though it will still be over 30c.

    Happy holiday, You lucky people

Thanks for all the help peoples :D appreciate it!
Dont mind too much if its just raining a for a few hours a day, just floods would put a real downer on the trip!! Thought we were leaving all that behind us
Had a look on the news agencies and most of the flooding is in the north of thailand just keeping fingers crossed i guess!!
Also heard that the metropolitan part of Bangkok had good flood barriers and stuff, we're staying just beside khao san road.....
    Here's hoping!

The Bangkok forum on tripadvisor has regular updates from contributors living there. You won't get better info anywhere.

I'm in Laos at the moment, having travelled for about 10 days in Bangkok/Northern Thailand last week. We got really lucky as Chiang Mai just cleared up before we arrived there from Bangkok, and obviously now Bangkok is getting hit after we've left it.

It is really bad in the Bangkok area at the moment - there's wall to wall TV and newspaper coverage here. Don't forget - it's not just the flooding itself, but all the knock on effects. For example - people in flooded areas are parking their cars on the motorways, and traffic is extremely bad. Bangkok traffic is already bad as it is, but now it's horrendous - so it may have an impact on your transport if you're looking to travel around/catch flights etc.

It may well have subsided a bit by when you arrive, so fingers crossed. I'm travelling in South East Asia until mid December and I'll be on some of the Thai Islands at the end of November so might even see you there OP.

All that said, it's hard to get too worked up about travel inconveniences when you see so many poor people being killed and made homeless by these floods. Life in perspective and all that.
