Not sure if this is the correct forum but...

For any commuters out there who have a tag and use the tunnel, do you find that the express lane is very very very poor?

Whenever I go through it, sometimes it will open, other times you will have to go out and go through one of the normal lanes.

It seems like it is happening to lots of people and many people go to a crawl on the entrance to the lane hoping they have a better chance of the barrier opening, creating a dangerous hold up at the entrance.

I havent noticed this as much at other toll plazas around the country but I dont go through them that often.

Anyone else having similar difficulties? Is it the tag or just a poor toll plaza..?

    I have a tolltag tag.

It could be any of a number of potential problems but the first thing I'd do is talk to your tag supplier, they will probably offer to replace the tag unless they are hearing of more problems with their customers in which case they will apply pressure on the plaza operator to get their act together.

If the battery is low in your tag you will start to get the type of problem you're describing, by any chance did you get a reconditioned tag or is it a few years old?

Its not just you, I know lots of people who have the exact same problem but it only seems to happen to them at the Limerick toll plaza

Limerick toll plaza express lane is a bit crap as you suspected.

I got a ParkMagic/TollTag pay as you go toll tag recently and in the letter they sent me, theres a note about the Limerick Tunnel toll, how you sometimes have to go to a regular lane to use the tag.

I have the park magic one too and it does work perfectly in express lanes throughout Ireland... except the one I use daily of course.

I did notice that it was happening to a lot of people, dont know if it is just parkmagic customers or anyone in general.

Nowadays I just ignore the express lane and go to one of the booths.

    Thanks for the responses.

Ya limerick one is still ****!!!!! Only works some of the time. You go the required speed & the thing does not work. You have to cut across lanes then cause it wont open. They will be the cause of a crash one day.Every other toll place in the country can get it working only Limerick.

I was going through the plaza at Clonmacken yesterday.

Into the express lane, tag beeped but no sign of barrier opening. Diverted into the other lane and as I cam up to the barrier it raised and thanked me for paying 3.20 . As I was driving a car I ground to a halt and got out.

I pressed the help button and waited. And waited. And waited even though the folk in the nearby booth had seen me. After 10 mins a guy comes out and told me that the technicians were working on the faulty express lane (but didn't bother closing it off..) and that I wouldn't be double-charged etc. etc. I asked why did it take so long for someone to come out to me and he muttered something about wanting to know that himself.

From what I can see the Limerick tunnel is being run by shysters.

I agree. I was done on Saturday and had to pay full whack due to screaming child with full nappy in back of car! €3.30 I'm sure I threw in to get through. Apparently I've no comeback, though it has given me ideas as to what to do with my supply of used nappies!
