He robbed a bank, therefore gets a sentence attributed to his crime.

    Where's the problem?

100 dollars for 15 years accommodation is a great deal

I'm guessing the fraud didn't involve the threat of being shot as experienced by the teller in the bank.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,333 ✭✭✭RichieC

He turned himself in... show of actual remorse and only took 1 note that the teller gave him.. the guy is no criminal. but he is black...

    btw this is from 2009.

Is it real? Sounds like the kind of thing that could be just made up.

Need much longer articles to make any judgement. The article about the homeless guy is very specific, and includes a picture, while the article about this businessman is vague.

    1. What was the businessman's role? The article about his crime is very fuzzy and never actually says if he was the ringleader or some low level patsy, just mentions his "role" but never says what that "role" actually was. The homeless guy's article definitively says he was acting alone.

    2. What was the actual crime in the businessman's article? It never says if any money was ever actually stolen, or how much. It says a "$3B Scheme" which could mean anything. The homeless guy's article gives an exact definition of the crime.

    3. What were their respective criminal histories? The articles do not mention them, but realistically, a drug-addicted homeless guy looking for money for detox is far less likely to have a clean record than a mortgage company CEO.

    4. There was far less likely to be a threat of violence in the Businessman's case. The homeless guy robbed the bank by threatening the teller's life. This is far more important than the amount of money involved.

I am in no way defending this, but none of you are aware of the context.

I saw this a few months ago on Reddit, and if my memory serves me correctly, the homeless guy had loads of prior convictions for theft, assault etc. So, basically the judge got pissed off and handed down the tough sentence in an attempt to sort him out.

And no, this does not excuse the fact that the scumbag businessman got off lightly, very lightly indeed, but I'm just saying that it is very important to be aware of the context.

At least he got 3 years, here he'd get a large pension and be on his way. And we'd all be asked to pay it back for him.

But had the bank robbed him ......?

Is the whole story "homeless man steals 100 and gets 15 years "? or is there a string of previous and a drug habit?

People also need to stop this **** of comparing everything to a banker, its ****ing tedious. His crime is his crime, what someone else did is irrelevant.

One could ask the same question of the banker

Whats the bankers relevance to the guy robbing the bank?

Either way, its fairly obvious whats being presented here, as others have said. If there was an unpaid parkign ticket in the bankers past it would have been worked in to further tilt the scales.

    Guy robs bank > bank(er) robs guy(s) ?

Is this not the three strike rule in effect? Mandatory jail term for third offence?
