I was looking at this but was put off by the line: "kerbed or corroded to a metallic silver powder-coated finish."

I does that mean you only have one colour choice?

Also watch out for the caveat that states if they are to take tyres off the wheels they change €15 a wheel. If you go for it send the rims in only.

It doesn't mention the tyres...it says where wheels need to be removed...so I take it that this is if they need to remove the wheels from your car??
A fee of €15 per wheel will be incurred where wheels need to be removed

Yup, must have misread it. Now just wondering about the colour issue.

    ...
No limits to custom colours as with powder coating, so you don’t have to settle for a near match

    Their website says:
No limits to custom colours as with powder coating, So You Don’t Have To Settle for A Near Match, We
deliver The Exact Color YOU want.

They say you're charged if wheels need to be removed but I suspect what they really mean is tyres. I sent them a mail asking to clarify.

Great, if you could let us know their reply?

Anyone know if they're any good? There's a Mondeo at home that could do with this badly...

Thats a decent deal given that Collins Engineering were asking me 450 for 4 wheels earlier this year.

    Think I might buy this

I have scanned through the site and can't find this. I know they mention kerb damage but does it say anywhere that they repair it/build it up again?

They say the normal price is 340 people don't seriously give that money for a refurb do they?

Look at some of their photo's on Facebook here:
    https://www.facebook.com/alloywheelrefurbishment.ie

They seem to repair kerbing alright

    Yes.

So €60 extra if they have to remove the tyres, and what about balancing? So nearer €250 in the real world, still not bad but not the bargain it seems.

    149.99 + 60.00 = 250.00??? Does not compute..

It's clearly 210 in the real world

This is very good, I was quoted 395 for 4 18's a couple of weeks ago.

Am assuming there would be additional charge for balancing.

I was quoted e237 including balancing/tyres off etc car overnight. Still not bad though.

Did that include fixing dents, kerb rash, etc?

I specifically mentioned kerb damage and he said this would be repaired.

I was on to them earlier and they said that the offer was valid only for the single coat sliver finish and that it would be €60 extra to take the tyres off the wheels which would have balancing included. If you wanted any other finish it would cost the normal amount - €400 for 4 wheels (tyres off and balancing included in that price) for the OEM BMW finish.

Just wondering if anyone has used http://www.wheelwizards.ie/ ? seems like a decent price too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭McP2011

    Yes.

People should price around in that case...that is very very dear.

For powdercoating? If so let us know where does it so cheap. Any place I know of is in the €400 range.

I went ahead and bought the voucher. I dropped the car in with them yesterday. First thing he did was show me the colour I would be getting and that there was no other choice for the deal. I was a bit taken aback by this as it wasn't made particularly clear in the ad, even after re-reading it it seems a bit contradictory. Anyway, I agreed to it even though the colour was darker than my wheels.

Afterwards I began to worry that the darker colour wouldn't suit my car, but when I turned up to collect it it looked great. Turns out he went ahead and used a brighter colour that closer matched my wheels.

The finish looks good and there's no sign of the kerb rash or light corrosion that had been on the wheels. They seem like nice guys and over all I'd definitely recommend them.

Well im sure if you try your local body man he will be cheaper.....and im not talking about powdercoating either.
The last paint i got for a set of my own wheels was 20 quid.
