    http://www.news.com.au/national/woman-gets-no-jail-for-sex-abuse/story-e6frfkvr-1226171268758
Laura O'Donnell, 20, pleaded guilty and was convicted in the County Court of four counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16 and five counts of committing an indecent act with a child under 16.

Court documents reveal she plied the boys, aged 12, 15, and two aged 14, with alcohol on three separate occasions. The first two involved one victim and the third, all four.

Documents show O'Donnell, who had trained to be a childcare worker, assaulted the boys while drunk between February and June last year in Ballarat.

Judge Sue Pullen wholly suspended O'Donnell's two-year, five-month sentence and placed her on an 18-month community-based order despite her previously breaching a similar order for an attempted robbery.
A report handed to Judge Pullen by a community corrections officer said O'Donnell repeatedly breached her 125-hour order and even failed to attend an assessment for the order she was eventually granted.

The judge attributed her offending to a troubled background, low self-esteem and alcohol abuse.

Crime Victims Support Association president Noel McNamara said the sentence was a disgrace.

"If it was a man on those charges it would have been a different story," he said.

I'm sickened by the result of this case. We all know exactly how this would turn out if it was a man put up for this, he'd be torn apart completely. I know it seems like a knee jerk reaction but I couldn't help but notice the sex of the judge in question. Is it possible this influenced the decision?

    What are your thoughts?

wow. even without assuming it'd be more if it were a man, I'm actually shocked that she hasn't been punished. wtf!

Another sterling judgement by our justice system.A disgrace is not even close.Low self esteem and alcohol is used as an excuse.Sure if thats the case the thousands of people could get away with doing this on an average Saturday night. If a man was found guilty of it his life would rightly so in ruins,Id bet my bottom dollar in a year nobody will remember who she is.

I think it's actually an Australian story, not Irish

I'd love to know what the influencing points are in cases such like this when we compare them to equal cases where men are involved.

A lot of people suggest that societies views on men and women are what tip the balance in favor of women. On one hand you have men, who are big, strong, alpha male, with dominant mind frame and nearly always expected to be the more aggressive in behavior and actions. While on the other hand you have woman, weak, frail, submissive, vulnerable, saints when compared to men in a general sense.

These wouldn't be my own personal views of course, just what I've noticed a lot of people to seem to think but is it opinions like above that are influencing these cases?

The short answer is few people really believe a man can be raped by a woman, statutory or otherwise. The expectation is that men will always be happy with any situation that resulted in sex and there can therefore be no real crime.

The SouthPark episode nailed it completely because the overriding concern is always "Is she hot?". If the woman was less attractive she possibly would have received a harsher sentence.

The opposite of the case below. Show's how different jurisdictions view 'similar' crimes.

Slightly excessive I would have thought

Poor judgments come from both genders.

I wouldn't see life as harsh for interfering with a minor, regardless of the sex. I think if a man got a 13 year old girl to touch his penis and offer her sex, there'd be not too many complaining of a life sentence.

The whole idea of suspended sentences is a joke. If you're going to hand someone a jail term, make them serve it.

You aren't serious? Touching someones breast through a bra is nothing like forcing a child to touch genitalia.

You really think that warrants the woman to spend the rest of her life in jail? If she had killed the boy the sentence would have been less.
If they sentenced like that here we would need 5 more Mountjoys.
    Anyway slightly off topic.

Agree the sentencing in the Ozzie case is a disgrace
