I'm looking to get an upgrade from my acer aspire to something with a bit more umph behind it. I know there are dual core netbooks but what about quad core ?

Once I have the CPU figured out I can buy RAM and hard disc upgrades separately if needed. Thats really the only thing you can upgrade anyway. Size is the main factor, I need a netbook not a small underpowered laptop.

Budget is about 500 quid although theres a little wiggle room there.

    What say ye ?

this is a confused post - you want a more powerful device but still want a netbook. netbooks by definition are low-powered and cheap. there is no such thing as a quad-core netbook. dual-core netbooks are generally only dual-core atom chips which are only about 15% faster than single-core atom.

if you want something with decent power, but netbook size and near-netbook price - this is a great option. decent sized hd. has hdmi. 2gb ram is fine for this device to run win 7- no need for 4gb.

well-recommended site, 10 sterling for 2-day delivery to Ireland.

Im basically looking for something thats very portable but also has more power behind it. That Lenovo looks interesting. Is there any other info to go with it ? How many DIMM slots it has for example. I ask because I will probably upgrade the RAM in the future but dont want to be limited to 2GB.

The E350 is a step above a netbook processor but is still not a really a power house.

If you need something a more powerful and can up the budget to around 580 (inc delivery) then this Samsung is definately worth considering.

most laptops of any type these days have only 1 ram socket as space is at a premium. 2gb is fine for win 7. I run win 7 64-bit on my dual-core ulv su4100 laptop and there is never any slowdown even when multi-tasking fairly heavily. unless you are doing a lot of video encoding or 3d gaming you don't need more than 2 gb for win 7 - it's nice to have but not essential. win 7 is more efficient with ram than xp or vista (which was very bad for memory). for 1 ram socket you can still buy a bigger ram stick - e.g. 1 x 4gb.

that other laptop posted is nice - just depends what you will be using it for and if you want to spend the extra €
