    hi,
i am 19 years old and dropped out of college this summer just gone. i currently have 2 part time jobs.
    1. I could be called to work for 1 day or 2 during the week. and then not called for another 2 weeks
    2. The other job i might get 2-3 days for the month.

i was wondering how this will affect me into gettin job seekers allowance?

i am living at home so i will be means tested.

are my calculations right here? :

roughly both my parents income is 1200 p/w
    mortgage 300p/w
    parents net weekly income 900
less deductions from net income 630
    total 270........................................... 270 x 34% = 92

    144-92=52

will i get just 52euro.. or could it be less

thanks for your help in advance

There are a number of things to take into account.

Firstly, do you have enough PRSI contributions to be claiming Jobseekers Benefit? If you do, then this is not means tested and you would get the full amount (based on your average earnings in 2009). To see if you have enough stamps for JObseekers Benefit, see here: http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/JobseekerSupports/JobseekersBenefit/Pages/jb.aspx

For Jobseekers Benefit yOu will lose a day's payment for every day that you work, if you work more than 3 days in any one week then you won't get a payment at all that week.

If you don't have the stamps, then its Jobseekers Allowance. You will be means tested from your part-time earnings (first 20 Euro each day will be disregarded, they will deduct 60% of the balance from your claim).

Your starting rate for Jobseekers Allowance is 100 Euro, not 144 Euro.

When calculating your parent's income, check the deductions again. If their net pay is 270 after all the allowable deductions and after you've taken taken off the allowance of 600 Euro plus the allowance for any siblings, then you will deducted 92 Euro as well as whatever is being deducted because of your own earnings. That means you'd have 8 Euro of a claim left before they look at your own earnings!!!!

If your only source of income is from the social welfare payment, then they will pay you a minimum of 20 Euro (rather than the 8 Euro) as long as you haven't been means tested entirely out of a payment.

However it sounds like after all of the above that if you don't have the stamps for JObseekers Benefit, that you may end up losing any entitlement to Allowance. You have been working though, and may have the stamps for Jobseekers Benefit. This would also help you in the future, as if you are transferring from Benefit to Allowance after your stamps run out, the new lower rates for under 25s don't apply!!!!!
