I was just looking at buying an iPad 2. The price jumps are pretty steep between the 16, 32 and 64 gig models.

If I am careful in terms of movies and music that I store on it is there any good reason or limitations on why the 16 gig model might not be enough ? Are Apps generally large in size ?

Is the 16 gig all available or is a large % of it taken by the OS/built in Apps etc. ?

    Thanks :)

It's not so much music or games.

Apps are getting bigger and will continue to get bigger.

I'd go 32 gb to be somewhat futureproofed.

Yea I agree. Got a 16Gb a couple of months ago and I have to manage apps carefully. Some games are 1GB plus. I dont have movies or music on it. According to a memory management App I have the available disk space is 13.8GB. You can get by on a 16GB but my iPad 3 will be 32GB!

Getting swayed towards 32gig it seems :)

Just hope when I get it I don't miss a price drop (unlikely before Christmas I suppose) or an announcement of iPad 3 !

I think 16GB is plenty personally. The apps on my iPad and iPhone take up 3GB and 1.5GB respectively. Apps themselves are very small for the most part. It's app data that can take up a lot of space. Like PDF files in GoodReader or video in VLC. If you think 16GB is enough for your music and video then I'd say go with 16GB.

If you have an old computer or laptop lying around you could set up a server and just serve music and video to the iPad. I plan on doing this when I get my 16GB.

I've a 16GB one, and do have to manage movies / TV shows to bring away, if I'm travelling for a week or so.

I have the 16gb also. I have never had space issues. I play very few games and I only put movies/tv shows on it that I want to watch and delete them when down. Really its only an issue if Im travelling but to date it never has been.

I find I actually have less apps on the iPad than I have on my iPhone because most websites are iPad friendly so i dont need the app equivalent.

Where would be the best/cheapest place to go about buying a 16gb ipad 2 in that case?

Prices are pretty much the same everywhere.

The key is how much content you will load in your ipad and how much you will access remotely. That is what will drive your space requirements.

I have a 16gb iphone for over a year and recently got a 32gb ipad because i didnt think 16gb would be enough for the ipad.
Pretty happy with 32gb and my next iphone will be 32gb aswell.

I have a 16gb iPad and am planning on getting the 64gb version when the iPad 3 comes out. I thought the 16gb would suit me when I got the iPad 2 years ago. But I travel for long periods at times and like to load up the iPad with videos and apps and the 16gb doesn't fulfil my requirements any longer. So as others have said, it really depends on your individual needs.

Same here, I have a 16gb iPad1. I watch video on oplayer, then delete after watching. No space issues if you manage it cleverly.
