    Hi all,

Planning on getting a sim-free 4S next Friday from Apple.ie

Does anyone know what time they usually launch products? Should I be online at midnight - or is it usually the morning time?

Probably the morning. But you are going to be looking at a 2-3 week wait either way.

I want to know as well, they should have it available to preorder online by now, but nothing has happened yet. It's still saying "Coming October 28". Does anyone know where else in Dublin is going to sell sim-free 4S?

There's unlikely to be any pre-orders. There's no point in Apple offering pre-orders on something that there's already a 2 week wait on. There was no pre-orders for the iPhone 4 on the Irish site either.

You won't be able to get a SIM-free iPhone from anyone but Apple. So your only other option is the Belfast Apple Store.

Do you reckon there'd defo be a wait either way?

I was thinking that they'd surely have a limited amount of stock on launch day, as opposed to no stock whatsoever and a 2-3 week lead time.

Look at the UK store - 1-2 weeks. That will probably jump to 2-3 when it launches here and elsewhere. There will definitely be a wait. If you really want a SIM-free version I'd recommend going up north.

I don't think thats the way it works: by staggering the release, Apple have reserved iPhone stocks for the 22 countries coming on board. When those are exhausted, then shipping times slip in Ireland to 1-2 weeks or more.

As you can see, pre-orders have now been announced.

I think you are supposed to pre-order now, you don't wait for the day itself. Normally, Apple then endeavour to ship several days early so that you receive the product on launch day.

I agree. They will almost certainly have stock for initial orders which will then quickly drop to a significant waiting time.

Maybe but I don't think so. It already says 1-2 weeks on the Irish Apple Store, which is what it says on the UK store as well. They didn't reserve stock for Irish customers last time so I don't see why they would do it this time either. Apple have really just started orders early knowing that no one will get it before the official launch here.

Isn't that because pre-orders in Ireland have now exhausted initial stocks?
