Why are there no engineering students on the Union?

I noticed that no engineering students are officers of nor sought election to the ITC Students Union?

There's plenty of PR & Communications, Sports, Business and Marketing students involved in the Students Union, but I can't seem to find many engineers who are interested in getting the free drinks and food from licensed establishments in Carlow (you know; Scraggs, The Foundry, The Temple, etc.)

Why is it that PR/Business/Sports/Humanities students seem to be over represented on the Union?

Well, the Student Union usually promotes the type of events that would be of more interest to people on those courses so it only makes sense that they are heavily represented on the Student Union. Plus Engineers probably don't have anywhere near as much free time to waste given the workload of their respective courses comparatively.

Time to waste? You might not think it but the SU do put in a lot of work and effort. And also they are elected so the lack of engineers and over representation of the rest is rubbish. Its like saying there is too many Fine Gael politicians in the government. They are elected by the people for the people. Simple as

Well apart from advertising what type of party is going on in The Foundary this week or spamming my inbox with useless bull****, please do enlighten me as to what exactly it is you think it is that they do of any use?

Comparing a popularity contest like the Student Union to real government is a joke. I don't believe the TD's won their seats by handing out gummies on the campaign trail.

If you think things should be done differently why don't you present yourself for the next election and make the changes that you think are needed.

socialising come part and parcel with the student lifestyle for most, if thats not your thing then thats your perogative but it sounds to me like its a case of sour grapes on your behalf that there are people out there enjoying themselves at these "parties" that are clogging up your inbox!!

Myself I am a class rep and i see directly the work the SU does. From student welfare to accomadation to charity fundraising to suicide awareness, Its a much bigger responsibility than people give credit for. I became a class rep so i could have an input into my education and enable my class to have a voice representing them in the college. Not for the supposed freebies that narrow-minded arseholes think we get!!!!

I don't think things should be done differently. I think the Student's Union is a waste of time.

I have no problem with people partying it up on the taxpayer. That's their prerogative. I don't need it flaunted in my face on a daily basis. Some of us actually come to college to get an education, not party for a year and then drop out.

Well, as a class rep, you are part of the Student Union's agenda. Of course you are going to spout pro-SU propaganda because you are sympathetic to their cause. I doubt you get any freebies. You are just one of the little guys. You just want something that you were told will look good on your CV. Keep on swallowing the bull****. Appears you have a taste for it now anyway.

hahaha your quite a funny guy !! bitter for some reason but funny none the less.. you seem to think you have it all summed up. I am the polar opposite of those lairy drunk students. i have a family and commute to and from college and i am very much the mature student. if you want to believe the pointless propaganda thats coming through in your posts then that up to you but its a waste of my time reading your negativity.

get out there dude, get laid or something, it might just remove the doom and gloom that seems to be relayed in your posts!!!

And believe me ... i don't need something to look good on my C.V. my friend. I more than enough qualifications as it is.

Wow. Is that the best you've got? Seriously?! You must be doing something taxing like business or social care!

Obviously not or you wouldn't be back at college.

Perhaps some posters need to read the site charter and maybe the forum charter.

Attack the POST and NOT THE POSTER!
Any more of that and I'll start handing out bans.
