    Pan Am's start this Sunday.

I thought it would on at stupid o' clock but it's only 5 hours behind. Don't know if there's anywhere to watch it though there might be a stream on the official site http://www.guadalajara2011.org.mx/home.

Interesting to see how the US lifters do.

    Any luck with a stream?

    Found one here.

Anyone else find a good one, most don't seem available outside the Americas.

Kendrick Ferris snatched 157, was 1Kg behind after this. Went for 208 on his 3rd c&j attempt and was apparently told to leave the platform and that he wasn't up by an official. Official was wrong and he ended up rushing out onto the platform with 6 seconds left and was never gonna make it. Fairly harsh!

    Soooooooooooo racist.

Third attempt was 198 not 208, ridiculous what happened. Got bronze anyway.

    Here's a pic of his 191 splot/kick jerk.

Its amazing that there is no contingency for an official screw up like that

It is in Mexico after all.

Jon North finished 4th in the 94's with 155/183 for a 338 total.

Jared Fleming finished 5th with 155/180 for 335.

Some other non-Americans won the medals. 2nd and 3rd place with 365 and 1st with 370. Big gap to bridge.

Big boys lift tonight, Shankle in the 105's and Mendes in the SHW.

Shankle snatched 165 for the 3rd. Probably read Revelations before going on the platform or something

Edit: 2:1 decision against so finished on 162.

Edit again: overruled and he finished with 165 on the snatch

Shankle clean and jerked 203, totalled about 27 below the winner but finished third.
Think the supers are on later. I reckon mendes will do somethin like 185/215-220?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭Scuba Ste

Supers is on now. Mendes opened 170 and is down to open 200 c&j.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 3,234 Mod ✭✭✭✭Edwardius

looks like 175/200 for Mendes. Pfft, I could do that, I just don't want to.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭Scuba Ste

    175/205. He missed 210 and 213.

What does he need to get to London? 8th place at the Pan Ams, if he gets similar in Paris, I'd guess he's very little chance of an Olympic spot.

Anyway Pan Ams are over now. Cubans took 4 gold. Communism is good for weightlifting? If Higgins wins today could we possibly become a socialist republic and build towards 2016.

I'm pretty sure that is one of Lyle McDonalds conclusions on the matter.

Did Lyle actually come to any conclusions on it? I got bored after the first thousand pages.

I'm not even sure he is qualified to comment, but it looked like he was going that way before I stopped reading.

It's Mark Rippetoes fault. I think.

So eh... is Pat Mendes still just being "held back"** cos the scene isn't ready for him yet?

**In before "the only thing being held back is his drugs near a comp"

What scene is this? the C group?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭Scuba Ste

Is a 30kg drop in his snatch not too big a loss for it to be only drugs though. He was supposed to be injured too.

Broz said he blew some tendons in his shoulder when he snatched 207 a couple of weeks before the Arnold. Also, most of his big gym lifts were in straps and I think he said that when he went back to lifting without he saw a large drop, Mendes seems to rip the bar off the floor so it might cause some problems if he usually straps up for it. Having said that, he was tested at the Arnold and has been on the USADA list for the last while and didn't seem to do anything crazy since. Might be a combination of injury, straps and maybe drugs. Could be clean either, I dunno.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭Scuba Ste

I noticed that myself. Since he's being tested regularly his lifts have fallen. Tbh I'd be more surprised to see any lifter come from nowhere in 5 years or less to compete with the best in the world.

Anyway a vid of the 85's including Farris's screw up.

    That Hernandez lad is classy.

You'll need to find a mexican proxy to get this to work. It's almost worth the hassle.
