Got noise from the back wheel on a 97 Megane so recon its the Bearing.
Anybody know if this is DIY doable ?
    - getting the hub/drum off?
    - gettin the bearing in/out; do you need a press?
    Thanks.

You might run into a problem getting the nut off the CV joint. You could need an impact gun too take it off and put it back on.

A friend managed to get it off without one but he used a special tool for it. Other than that it's pretty straight forward.

Its on back so it has no cv joint just a stub...loosen the main bearing nut before you jack up the car...a breaker bar with a bit of piping on it will loosen near enough any nut...other than that its a straight forward job if your not sure about these things leave it to a mechanic.

Yeah was thinking of my own car it's 4 wheel drive and that the breaker bar was what he used.

Should be DIY do-able but you'd need advice from a pro.

    Done it, no big problem.

Was a bit worried that I'd need a press to get the bearing out/in, but BFI with a lump hammer worked.

That bearing might'nt last long if you hammered it in!

Well I did the hammering on the old bearing shell up against the new one, so I think it will be ok, though I did notice a small amount of grease was forced out by the far side by the shock. It does very few miles anyway.

Are there places that would press in/out a bearing for future reference?
