Purchased a new turbo which duly arrived today:D

What's the deal with what bike/wheel to use as I believe the can bald the tyre. I've only got one bike at the moment so I'm interested in what other people do?
    Cheers

I bought one from them weekend before last, got an email on the monday and didn't read it cos I assumed it was a dispatch note. Didn't read it till the weekend and saw they wanted a pic of my card. Weird practice but it seems they do it a LOT, still not entirely happy about sending it...expect mine to arrive today though.

You can get a tacx tyre for your bike, cycle superstore seem to be the cheapest place to buy them. Cheaper than wiggle.

I got a 2nd hand wheel , bought a cheap cassette and got a turbo specific tyre total cost of €100 but well worth it
Having a 2nd wheel obviously saves loads of time and the tyre saves loads of money and not having to change tyres so often when they wear out ( quickly ) .
Tacx are amazing Turbo trainers .
Another thing you may be interested in buying is a fan .
I got one in argos , I think it cost €20 or €30 and is a large stand fan which is great .

A wheel you can swap in and out is the only practical option. You're not going to swap tyres for a turbo session. A turbo-specific tyre on the wheel is the way to go.

    Shameless plug:

    Hmmm.... http://www.wheelworx.ie/training-wheel

Tyre is actually cheaper in wheelworx and CSS than it is online at €30. €90 for the wheel though, is it worth it?

For a while I just used my regular wheel and tyre on the turbo trainer, but after a few months of doing a turbo session once a week (or more in the winter) it started to knacker the a tyre pretty fast (bits melting off, or becoming slick). Which wasn't nice when you've put a decent set of tyres on the bike in the first place.

I gave in and found a cassette, wheel and trainer tyre on sale at wiggle. I wouldn't look back, its great being able to swop between the two wheels, also means you've a spare if something happens to your back wheel.

What I ended up with was..
Shimano WHR500 Clincher Rear Wheel (€76.21)
Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Home Trainer Tyre (€21.73)
    Shimano 105 5700 10 Speed Cassette (€59.88)
