I'm terrible at working with my photos

    I'll keep this short:

I love taking pictures. I've had photography as a hobby for the last five or six years.

The problem is I often just take pictures, transfer them to my hard drive and there they stay forever and ever, amen.

I have pictures I took in Scotland a few years back and I don't think I've ever looked through them all.

I bought Lightroom recently and thought it would help me in this regard. It has to an extent but I haven't done anything with my pictures in a few weeks.

Also, even when I do work on them I very rarely print.

It's kind of sickening. Sometimes I feel like just selling all my gear off. Maybe I should just walk around the places I like taking photos and not bother bringing the camera any more.

I wanted to set aside a particular evening each week when I'd work on the pictures but haven't started doing that yet. I think I'd work well in this way - i.e. every Thursday spending two hours working with photos.

My goal for years has being to print maybe 5 pictures every two months or so....I'm such a failure. :)

Basically, sometimes the enjoyment for me is just the taking pictures part, not the rest of it. Suppose there's nothing wrong with that as I still enjoy the hobby, but still...it sometimes feel like I'm the only one, but surely I can't be.

Anyone else in the same boat as me? Any advice?

Not as short as I envisioned.

    Thanks.

    Hi splendid
I think we can all understand your love with taking a photo and your problem with keeping every pic on your computer.
One solution I have is that I print what I think is the best shot in a set and put it on a wall dedicated to photos (mine is in a back utility room).
The rest I delete after 3 months
I find this helps me remember taking the photos.

maybe try going for film? if you take fewer pics, you might be more inclined to do something with them?

Splendid, a suggestion to get your MoJo back.

Join a group or try and get someone in your area with an interest in photography.
Plan a few trips and get out and learn from each other, share and look at the different images achieved.

I have found a new passion for landscape photography over the last 9 months and love it. The main help was meeting up with a group of Bertie Bassett's (allsorts's !!) and learning from them.

Use the group to give positive and suggestions to help improve your shots.

I too have just starting using lightroom and love it. check out tutorials online.

    Keep the faith :)

Why not set-up a flickr account - and share the best ones with family and friends online.

You can link lightroom to your flicker account - so you can upload to flickr though lightroom.
