Hen house/run help!

    Hi,

We have 4 hens and a house with and attached run on wheels which we can move around the garden to save the grass.

Normally we allow the hens to roam around the whole garden during the day but we are going away for a few days so will need to lock them in the run while we are away for their own safety as we live in a rural location with loads of predators. My brother-in-law will call in once a day to check food and water.

The run is covered in wire on the top and sides but the base is open. Im worried that a predator could easily dig under the run and killl the lot while we are away.

    I have two options:

    1. Move the entire run onto concrete (so nothing can dig under), then throw some bark mulch in for them to scratch around in. Unfortunately the concrete area is too small so the run will remain in the same position for the entire week, or

    2. Attach wire to the base of the run which can then stay on the grass and be moved to a fresh patch each day (the missus thinks that walking on the wire will sprevent them from scratching and be uncomfortable for them)

    Any suggestions?
