Monitor signal problem

I've having an on/off problem with my monitor. My PC boots fine, but seem to not send a signal to the monitor. The monitor has power, and can take a signal from another machine.

A re-boot will sometimes fix this after a few attempts. The other day after re-booting didn't work I swapped the port the DVI used in the graphics card the monitor and that worked, but I got the same trouble today using these ports.

I'm not sure if it's a problem with my graphics card or something else. It's a fairly new 580. Could it be a driver issue or is there something else I should be looking for?

Could you try another DVI cable maybe? If that cable was used on other machines fine then its a strange one, I don't think drivers would help you here as they only kick in when windows loads anyways. Could be a faulty card?

    Hi grizzly,

To me it sounds like the graphics card is failing. As seeing that you tried the monitor on another computer and had no issues, I would try and exchange the DVI cable (unless you have done this while testing the monitor on another machine). If you have the same issues with a new cable then sadly its the graphics card that will need replacing.

Let us know how you got on either way.

    Regards,

    Danny

Thanks for the replies. I've try a new DVI cable first.

Is there any test I can run on my card to check for signs that it's failing?

There is something you could try. If you know the make and model of your graphics card you could visit the manufacturers website and look for updated drivers. Other then that its mostly pot luck with testing different cables/ monitors to see if its the card itself at fault or if you have another spare card itself to try out in your machine and see if the results are the same.
