Hi everyone I'm having awful trouble trying to find tights and leggings that don't rip in the first week or two of wearing them, it's costing me a fortune! Anyone recommend any brands/shops that sell more durable ones?

    Thanks

Wolford. My preference is for Satin Opaque 50, never has a pair ripped. Ever. They are around €24 tho. I mostly get them in the UK for £16. It's genuinely worth it, for me. They look great and last forever.

I did have a pair of Velvet Opaque that ripped first day, at the price that's very upsetting, but it was Dublin Bus's fault with some random metal piece sticking out of the seat.

Not trying to be funny or anything but are you maybe doing something to rip them? I have bought Penneys tights and leggings for years, 3 pairs of tights for €4, and I have never had them rip, I actually can't remember the last time a pair of tights ripped. Would you be being very rough with them or anything?

I've always found tights from Next and Accessorize to be great. I have a few pairs that have lasted me for years. They usually have a nice range of colours and patterns too.

Couldn't agree more strongly with the Wolford recommendation. Yes they are expensive but they are worth it. I bought about 3 pairs of them in the winter of 2008/09 and they are only now starting to wear out, one pair more than the others too. I wear skirts and boots a lot during the winter and have found these tights to be both warm and durable.
    Very much worth the investment.

I find M & S tights to be very good quality too!

+1 on Wolford if it's opaques, they are bullet proof.

For sheers though I don't think it matters - they all have a tendency to tear, it's just the nature of them. M&S claim to have ladder resist sheers, but I don't know if they are any better.

Is is sheer or opaque you are looking for?

Tabio tights rarely ladder and come in a rainbow of colours. I adore mine.

+1 on M&S tights, I have a few pairs that are rip free :)

I find that H&M do good leggings, if you buy the thick ones! I'm not sure how much they are, sorry! Don't think they're more than €11 though.

I have tonnes of tights from Dunnes Stores (3 pack for €4) and they have lasted me ages.

As for leggings, I got one pair from Dunnes and after being worn and washed about 5 times they lost their shape and went baggy.

I've a few pairs from H&M which have been worn and washed loads and are still in shape. I've one pair from River Island which like the H&M ones have been worn and washed loads and are still in shape, they are slightly lighter than the H&M ones. The H&M leggings were less than €10 each and the River Island ones were around €13.

I got a pair from Dorothy Perkins about three years ago and it's only now that they've lost their shape slightly and they are bobbled. I paid around €10 for them and certainly got plenty of wear from them.

I tried on a pair of leggings in Topshop which are exactly like my River Island ones, but were more expensive.

Dunnes have really good black tights, the ones that come in a single pack, I have had dogs jump on me with no snagging or tearing from nails (so many tights lost this way!) and they aren't too expensive.

I've got opaques from Penneys that are facing into a third season of wear now. If you mind them they should last! For the last two years I wore dresses/skirts almost every day so my tights were worn fairly regularly. Just mind your fingernails and your technique for putting them on and you should get the longevity out of them (mind you, as someone else pointed out, sheers are much more prone to ripping, no matter the brand)

Thanks for all the replies guys :)

In answer to your question, I don't know! I'd go out about once or twice a week and often find they've ripped the next day, I thought maybe it was because I was buying them in too small a size or something but bigger ones rip too. Either way, I'm not going to suddenly change my behaviour in whatever way just to stop my tights ripping, so I'm looking for more heavy duty ones ;) Bought two pairs in penneys of the thickest ones I could find for a fiver each, both with rips after the weekend :P

I've gotten lots from Dunnes and they haven't ripped on me yet! :)
