    Hi Guys,
I have a Dell inspiron laptop about 3 years old and the screen has gone dark like the bulbs are gone maybe? I can barely make out the screen if I hold it to the light but the laptop is unusable. Any ideas on how to fix it or the cost?
    Cheers,
    Will

    New screen inverter required.

Had the exact same problem with the same laptop of similar age. Turned out to be the inverter for the screen.€ 20 for the inverter fitted. A new screen which may be necessary due to the bulbs going will set you back about €90 fitted, cheaper if you buy it from eBay and fit it yourself.

    Is it a 1545?

Check out the post by 'Mountaineer 1972' in this link.

Make sure this isn't the problem before you pay for new inverter etc. I've corrected this on two Inspiron 1545's so far and problem remained fixed.
