You're lucky he didn't get out and slash your tyres.
all I can say to you Mini Cooper man is that you were lucky you made it through those lights because if you were stopped there I was going to get out and have a word with you.

ha! Just noticed this bit, what exactly would you have said? "How dare you try to let me out!"?

Why did you bother signalling him you are the driver of your own car you decide what you think is safe, 2 fingers is the only signal you should have gave him.

Hi everyone, have to get something out there or I'm going to explode, if this isn't the right place for a rant thread then I apologise.

I was coming out of Airside Retail Park today at peak traffic time (17:30ish) wanting to turn right however the traffic was backed up all the way from the lights down to my exit with a silver car directly across the road in front of me so there was no way I could get out. However the car that came up behind the silver car, a dark colour Mini Cooper saw I needed to get out so left a very large space (about 20m I'd say) in front of his car and beckoned me come out. There was only a sparse bit of traffic coming down the other side so if I had room to move over to the main road I would have but there wasn't.

While the Mini Cooper driver continued to stare at me and point to the room in front of him I tried to show there was no room to move out (quite hard in signal language!) or else my car would be completely across the road blocking the other side of the road.

Now this was all fine until the traffic started to move and the Mini Cooper driver drove by looking at me while putting his hands in the air as if to say "Stupid person, you had your chance!".

I can't let stupidity of this degree get by, all I can say to you Mini Cooper man is that you were lucky you made it through those lights because if you were stopped there I was going to get out and have a word with you.

If you're reading this, I know from your point of view it must have seemed like I had oodles of space to get out but in reality there was a car in front of me across the road. If he hadn't been there I would have taken your kind offer, moved out and given you a wave.

BUT DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR AT ME WHEN YOU BASICALLY WANTED ME TO BLOCK THE WHOLE ROAD, YOU FOOL!

If anyone is not sure what I'm on about, I can draw a picture to show.

    Thanks for reading.

You probably could of went out, he left a large gap thinking you would do a bit of a turn to get in behind the silver car by the sound of it. Just because a driver thinks they cant do something, that doesnt mean it cant be actually done.

Draw the picture you mention and show us the setup.

LOL I was anticipating these kind of replies and they are good because it helps put things in perspective.

Yep it definitely is a small thing to be losing the head over but its one of those things, to me at least, that you can't get out of your head for awhile. Like when you have a disagreement with shop staff or your boss over trivial things but its in a heat of moment thing.

Also I think a contributing factor could have been I was hungry which usually makes me irritable, had my tea now and feel fine.

Had I gotten the chance to talk to him I would have at least said what I'd originally posted though probably with at lot more expletives.

I probably did a bad job explaining the situation, its not that I took too long to move, its that I had no room to move lol

So in the picture below I want to turn right on to the main road. He left so much room he probably couldn't see the obstacle in front of me or judge where it was in relation to me which is fine, I just didn't like the hand gesture he made after he moved off. It is possible to have gone out left and tried a U-Turn with a bit of reversing and going forward (Austin Powers style) but there was sporadic traffic coming down the left side so it would have been a bit dodgey and I doubt they would have had the patience at that time of day.

    Behold my paint diagram:

I didnt think you were allowed take a right turn coming out of any of the Airside exits? You're meant to go left then come back up at the roundabout.

    LOL

Bloody hell OP, the only way you could fail any harder is if you happened to be putting on make up at the time.

OP, I looked at your picture. Why didn't you demand your driver to get out and give out to him, like all good people riding in a limo are entitled to do.

Hi Keira, you're right, of the 3 exits it just seems to be the one nearest the roundabout that you can't turn right at, the other two its ok as there is no sign saying not to. I was at the one nearest the lights.

You sure? I thought they made all of them left turns due to people blocking the traffic crossing over to the other side of the road.

To the girl who was serving me in the CarPhoneWarehouse on Grafton St earlier today: I guess when you came back from checking the stock room for any Samsung Wave 723s that may have been back there, but just not showing up on the system; you probably thought to yourself that I was in fact just a time waster and rolled your eyes to your fellow staff members. Well, let me tell you Miss smarty pants, I most certainly am not a "timewaster"; you just took way longer than I you implied you would be and if I had waited any longer, my car may have been clamped. So think about that in future before you go around slandering people.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,130 ✭✭✭✭Kiera

    tobiasa wrote: »
I'm pretty sure, at least I see people doing right turns on those two exits all the time, guy in front of me did one actually. I can see how it would block things up though. Might be easier going to the roundabout in future now that I think about it.

Just because someone does it infront of you, doesnt make it right (turn :P). I'm pretty sure you were in the wrong to take the turn and to get pissed off at someone for being nice to you.

They got rid of the right turn because of people blocking the road and due to the fact it caused lots of backup in the retail park for cars having to wait for the car infront to get a break in the traffic which would take ages.

    I hate traffic lights:

    1) When the one ****er in front wants to go across on the Red, and 5 people behind him want to turn
, but the guy in front is right in the middle of this wide-ass lane with his compact, keeping everyone behind him from going
on Red - If you're going across, hug the right side of the lane (Or Lefttside if we're talking US, so people can turn Right) So people turning can get a chance to squeeze past you.

    2) Idiots that forget that they can turn
on Red, and keep everyone else behind them in an extra 2 minutes of traffic.

    3) People at the front of the stop that celebrate by blogging about their excitement to be in the front of the traffic light on facebook through their iPhone and think about what a wonderf- *beep*, the light turned green 10 seconds ago. Oh good, you had it in park? Hurry up and shift gears. Damn, too late, the road sensor decided we were done, and now it's red again. Thanks. Jerk. Put that on Facebook.

    4) On multilane stops the people that merge into the open lane in front of the light, to avoid being in a line of 3 cars. And then when the light goes green instead of trying to accelerate like a normal human being they drift forward seemingly on the power of their own sense of self-satisfaction, getting overtaken by 5 cars from the lane they merged out of.

    5) People from category 4) that block people trying to turn right on red.

    6) People that let other people cut into the lane for no good reason other than the other driver wasn't man enough to wait in the long ass line of cars for the Turn, like the rest of us had to do.

It's too fun to bitch about other drivers.
