VSC + TRC OFF Light on Dash (Toyota)

Wifey was driving her 05 Verso earlier today when these 2 lights appeared on the dash.

Had a look around specialist Toyota forums and a lot of the suggestions were to park car on level surface and pull battery connection for 15 mon to clear...

It seems to be a common problem on Toyotas around that time particularly diesels.

    Any ideas?

Sounds like a speed or ABS sensor has failed. Recommending that you disconnect the battery for 15 months is a bit much though :D

thats what I was thinking...anyone else?

You may get the fault codes check there is multiple issues that it could be also disconnecting battery will only reset the light temporarily.

Does the car have a TRC button to turn it back on or is it permanently on?

    +1.

Get you hands on a multimeter, jack up each wheel, remove wheel, find ABS cable connector and try to get a voltage swing reading from the cable as you spin the hub (with ignition on).

    Replace/Clean the one thats dead

gonna drop it into mechanic who serviced car not so long ago. He has the diagnostic equipment to check it out. Also has an engine management light on so could be one of several issues

No disrespect to the OP but the fact he is posting here and googling Toyota forums for a cause means he is not going to be up to doing that.

No disrespect to yourself but that's a time consuming way to find the problem a fault code reader would be alot handier.

tossy, if I had the time, I'd do what was suggested. Now that the eng mgt light has come into the equation, I could be looking for a needle in a haystack.

Best let herself off tomorrow to drop it in to have it looked at to get it resolved

Far as I know the vsc and trc lights often come on with the engine light, doesn't always mean a vsc or trc light

    Fingers crossed its not injectors.

I never thought it was that simple ;)

is that a pricey repair cmc?

hopefully its something straightforward like cleaning the EGR valve as some forums have found to cure it

Hopefully its something simple, yours is hitting 100k isn't it?

It has 93k km...still a "teenager". Just had a major service done 2 mths ago. All belts, fluids, oils, brakes.

What would if any be the symptoms of dodgy injectors? Car is running perfectly, revving smoothly and accelerating as normal???

car went in for diagnostic check this morning...showed very little except a brake fluid sensor fault

Faults were reset so we'll see if it re-occurs. Hopefully just a one off glitch

    Longtime reader first time poster.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but was wondering did u ever get to the bottom of the lights on issue in the Verso?

My wife's 2009 Toyota Verso Diesel is having the same problems, VSC Light, TRC Off light, Engine Management Light and ABS light is coming on intermittently about 10-12 times in the time we have it (last 11 months), turning off the engine clears the lights. Happened shortly after we buying it from a Toyota dealer and brought it back to run a diagnostic check and was told there was no fault logged or something to that effect.

Let is slide after that and didn't really follow up on it but as the warranty will be up shortly want to try and get it sorted.

    Thanks

Don't worry as soon as its out of warranty they will find the faults...

Go to indy, find the one with decent code reader.

VSC and TRC goes off automatically when ECU finds something wrong with engine or brake system - ABS when brake system's fault is detected.

And yes, it is possible that toyota didn't want to find a fault.

    Visual

That's what I'm afraid off, got the usual run around as if I was imagining that the lights were coming on...

Make it the garage problem if you know what I mean. Sometimes being simple and single minded is best.

Once your sensors detect a fault its stored in the cars computer
More serious faults will light warning lamps secondary faults will just be stored in computer.

Unless the fault is found and corrected it will continue to be detected by the cars computer.

Traction ABS are often sensor or ring gear at wheel.

Cheap code readers will detect basic faults and allow you clear them but the dealer code reader is much more advanced and can read a lot more information.

Its not uncommon for a garage to reset the computer and wait to see what codes reappear.

Then they aren't chasing ghosts and can focus on the real issue

I suspect this maybe the case with your wifes car

Thanks. I have it booked in for Friday at the dealer we bought it from so will see what they find/come up with this time.
I'll post an update when/if I get any answers.

Had car into dealer today, they ran the diagnostics and found a fault code , the mechanic thinks that it has something to do with the ABS but not sure so he is getting onto Toyota Ireland to see if they can shed some light on the issue.
He's confident that it has nothing to do with the EGR Valve.
So I'll have to wait and see.

Wow some main dealer haters here...
Anyway- did you happen to find out what the code was?
