Read-only USB memory key

I have a USB memory key that seems to be read-only. It's in a casing so I can't check if there is a read-only button. I don't want to remove the casing as it's a replacement key from the supplier based on the previous key being faulty (2GB capable instead of 16GB). Thougths?

Try right clicking it and formatting (will wipe everything)

Fake usb keys on Ebay has been a well known scam for ages:
