I'm currently studying at University but have little interest in my course. I've always had an interest in all things aviation. I'd really love to be part of the operations side of an airport. I've spent some time researching but can't find any concrete info on how to get into this field of work.

Do I need to go down the road of getting a degree in a particular area such as business? Or do you some people start off at the bottom and work there way up and if so where would one start?

I would really appreciate some advice on this

What do you mean by operations? Frontline on the ramp? I would say there is a great of starting at the bottom in many of those jobs and no doubt there is potential to move up the ranks but overall it's low paid work.

Or Airport management? The DAA has a graduate program or had. Check out their website. That might be what you're looking for.

Just checked their website, here it is:

If you mean the airfield management unit (i.e. ground ops/follow me cars/maintenance) it's a very popular job and a huge amount of staff apply when positions come up. I think they are putting in place a panel this year. But of course you have to get in with the DAA first, which is the hard part. The complete your probation.

Unless it's directly into management you want to go, then you have to work your way up.

If it's just anything on the ramp you could try servisair or the fuel companies if you have a truck licence.

    Hi Elessar,

Do you know what the salary is for Airfield Management Officer?
