VMware/Windows XP/ Port Forwarding...

Right, having a bit of trouble here....

I'm running an iMac with Snow Leopard, with VMware Fusion installed running Windows XP...

the only reason i'm running XP is to use a file sharing program, which requires ports to be opened

When i do ipconfig on the VM, it's giving me an ip address of 172, not 192, and when i open my router preferences window on my mac i obviously need a 192 ip address to be able to open the ports for said ip address..

anyone got any ideas on how to sort this problem? either make my VM give a 192 ip address or do it another way?

Change the network settings of the VM from NAT to Bridged and you can port forward to your heart's content!

down in the bottom right, when i select bridged, it won't allow the VM to connect to the net, at all...?

Dunno, it works for me! Are there any errors in Console.app?

Try rebooting VMWare then if all else fails reboot the machine.

Got it sorted in the end, a restart of VMware sorted it...

Having another slight problem now if anyone could possibly help me!

My VM will not connect to the net i'm getting an error.

    vmnet0 is not running

The network bridge on device /dev/vmnet0 is not running.

The virtual machine will not be able to communicate with the host or with other machines on your network.
Failed to connect virtual device Ethernet0.

    anyone got any ideas?

What Fileshare app are you running ?

    Ken

the fileshare app isn't what's causing this problem tho, that's the killing thing, it's VMWARE!

Are you connecting via a different network connection than normal? Wireless as opposed to wired for example? You might need to change the VM settings if so.

Have you tried rebooting the machine?

I Googled the error and there are some hits that list a Terminal command you can run to restart the VMWare bridge service. The hits are quite old, but I'm sure they still apply. Not sure what version of VMWare you're running anyway!

    i'm using Version 2.0 (116369)

    with a copy of xp!

    Anyone got any ideas?
