Forward compatability?

Does anyone know if a singleplayer map made in one version would be compatible with later versions? I know it's impossible to say for certain, as we can't really guarantee anything until the finished game comes out, but can anyone make a reasonably educated guess?

My problem is that I was making a map for use with the adventure mode. I'd aspirations of having some sort of epic story (how it unfolds is beyond me as I've no idea how adaptable the adventure mode will be. But I'm being positive about it). I set to work building my map and am fairly happy with how it's turning out (I've posted a picture of small fortress I'm using below for no real reason other than to boast, and and maybe show the effort I put in so far), and just want to see if I'm wasting my time on something that most likely won't work with future versions.

I've gone out of my way to make sure there's nothing more than basic blocks. There's no redstone or even minecarts in it, so I'm hoping that that's going to be easily transferable.

    Am I panicking over nothing?

AFAIK and from my own single player games on my laptop they are all saved and carried across when minecraft updated.

when the 1.8 came out there was a rumour going around that all your saves would be useless but all that happened was that they arent updated with the latest game inclusions. for instance my longest play is about 6 months old. since the update it still works but has no endermen or npc villages in it. i'd have to start a new game to get them.

    i reckon you'll be ok.

Thanks. Would the likes of Endermen etc not spawning apply to the whole world, or just for the explored chunks, do you know? For example, if you travel to a new section, is there a chance that these could spawn in the new area?

if the biome code is changing, which seems likely, you will get nasty mis-matched edges on the boarder of 1.8 - 1.9 chunks....thats if you go and spawn new chunks.

Enderman etc will NOT spawn at all in pre 1.8 worlds

It's impossible to say for sure, but maps should be okay from here on out!

I remember when they got rid of the millions of folders method for the newly made mcr method...

Everything converted okay which was good
