    Hi,

I burned data from my mothers laptop, running Xp, but when I insert the disk(DVD RW) in my laptop, also xp, it takes ages to recognise the label but shows no files. When I check properties it shows 1.17g used which is the size of the file but cant access it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    JJ

At a guess, either your optical drive is knackered or the media's knackered. Re-writable CDs & DVDs aren't great in the long term so I'd assume a faulty disc first. Check it in another drive if you can - if the same thing happens, you'll almost certainly need to burn it again from source.

It could be that the Disc wasn't finalised properly (sometimes the session is intentionally left open to allow easily adding more data and this causes issues with some drives especially non RW ones). Try reburn it again, if the data is important to be accessed try using a tool like Recuva to recover the data, but there is no guarantee

Tried that Nick, no joy. When I try and search its saying the folder isn't indexed so am guessing I ejected the disk without completing like you said. Just have to burn again, thanks anyway.
