Downgrading ios on iPhone

    Hi,

So I made the mistake of updating to ios 5 with my jailbroken iPhone 3gs. I've since unlocked it but can't get connectivity - it connects to wifi but not to a network. I take it this is an issue with ios5 and not my phone as I got a new sim to try and that doesn't work either.

So I figured downgrading to ios 4.3 would be the best option and I've been following this guide. All is good until I try to save my editted hosts file and I'm not allowed to do it. I went into the hosts file properties and changed the permission so I can read and write in it but I still can't save it. Any suggestions on where I'm going wrong?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi

Tinyumbrella will change the host file for you,
you don't need to do it. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I thought I could only use TinyUmbrella if I had saved my SHSH from before I upgraded? I only got tinyumbrella after I upgraded to ios5 so I'm not sure how to use it to get back to where I was

You can download your shsh blobs from the cydia back up server using tiny-umbrella. If it was unlocked using ultrasn0w you almost certianily backed them by clicking "make my life easy" when you first booted cydia.

download tinyumbrella, plug in iphone and download shsh blobs from cydia and run the tss server and it will work fine.

however, you can upgrade to ios5, there are just a few extra steps to get network connectivity, have a look at this post http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/11430068008/pre-qualifier

    hope this helps

Gonna give the second option a shot first and if I can't get that working I'll go for your first suggestion. Thanks a million!

So I DLed an earlier ios from here but I'm a bit stumped on what to do now. I opened up TinyUmbrella and started the TSS Server which is now running. In the log the last action was "TSS accepting connections". Do I have to upload the SHSH into tinyumbrella or something? Sorry, really shouldn't have started messing with this! Also is there a specific version I should go for or is anything before 5.0 ok?

just leave tiny umbrella tss server running and restore to the 4.3 firmware.
Were you using untrasn0w or a gevey sim out of interest?

to edit your hosts file, copy it to a different location, edit it and copy it back to the original location replacing/overwriting the original.

you will be able to restore to 4.1 regardless of shsh blobs without tinyumbrella. but that may not support a lot of apps at this stage
