I have serious issues regarding first touch,

    1. My first touch is ok but not as good as id like it to be
    2. I am severely inconsistant where my touch can often let me down, i can tend to completely miss the ball on the odd occasion. other days it can be good

but my biggest problem is that i practise a lot hitting the ball low and hard off the wall and running to it and im still not improving.

any advice is welcome, please help me

Is your hurley the right size ? A hurley that's too big makes it a lot harder to get your touch and the ball into your hand quickly.

length and weight of hurley is a big factor

to improve your touch you really need to practice in as close to the wall as possible (3-4m) so you have less time to adjust to the ball

getting a low ball up into the hand while running full speed is a difficult skill and requires lots of arm and core strength, good technique, and comfort on the hurley.

get yourself a "HERB", or something similar..

the us marines say that to train your body and mind (muscle memory) you have to repeat something 2500 times.

how many times have you worked on your touch!

20 mins off a wall each day and you'll be flying in a week.

Thanks lads for the replies, my hurley is the perfect size and weight and I really want to succeed in the game, especially after being out of the game for 3 years.

am also hoping to reach the county minor panel within 2 years so hopefully plenty of practise will bring me on leaps and bounds.

    Ensure your technique is right.
Go to rte.ie/sport/gaa and look for the Fun Do article on the left hand side, that will give you the correct technique, everything as said by the lads above should help improve.
By correct technique, i mean the following. Strong hand on top of the hurley, have other hand close to the bas, around where the tape is when controlling the ball, have the hurley facing the correct way (toe facing away from the body), keep the hurley vertical to the ground with the bas in front of the handle to help with control, then just practice practice practice and when you have that done, practice some more.
    Best of luck.

control of the hurley is based on familiarity with using it and the strength/power in your body to use it

I would recommend looking at ways to strengthen your body.
If you want direction then pm me

I am certainly looking at going to the gym, I wouldnt be the strongest either so it would be win win for me, both improving technique and strength........!!!
