Before I came on this site, I'd say if I had a spare shifter, I'd have thrown it in a box in the shed somewhere, and probably eventually fired it in the bin, I mean who the hell would want to buy one of them right?

Mother of jaysus, I'm constantly amazed at the trade in levers and shifters that goes on, it seems nothing shifts like a shifter on here.:)

So, again, I have to ask, what in the name of God d'ye be doing with them, and what's happening all the old ones?

people crash bikes.people let their bikes fall. usually first point of contact with the ground is either crank or shifter.

Simple, people of various levels of kit are upgrading their drivetrain bit by bit, hence they might buy an ultegra and sell their old tiagra to recoup some of the cost.....like i did.

It makes sense if you think about, we're not all made of dura-ace money.

Sometimes they just break. The 105 5600 left shifter has always a had a problem. I've replaced it twice, and since then I had an ebay search setup to email me in case any cheap ones came up. Luckily I've managed to not break any in over 2 years now.
The problem is they only made a triple 5600 shifter, and and it's possible to try to shift up when you are already in the big ring. If you do it with enough force, something breaks inside.

The FD-5600 is a 105 shifter for a double/compact crankset. I have one on my bike. The FD-5603 is for a triple.

The 5601 will also do, but fnck me they're expensive.
