Really is very sad alright. I recall some of the presidential candidates promising to tackle the crazy suicide rates on this Island, hopefully they follow through whether they're elected or not. It's mostly young guys too, I wonder how many maybe related to gay issues? Whatever the reason it's not talked about enough.

Apparently the figures for young males, while too high are in decline, the spike is married, middle aged, heretofore well heeled men who can't deal with the prospect of telling their families there's no more money for the the nth holiday and the car won't be changed this year. It's tragic really.

On topic, it's great to see services targeting young LGBT people for support. I can't speak for elsewhere but UL has a drop in every week with a LGBT Liaison Counsellor.

As another poster stated alot of the sike can be attributed to financial issues and is often older men.

However I know of three in the last year involving young males under 20, directly related to them being gay. Two of which were after relentless bullying.

I also recently became aware of a another closeted gay man who died by suicide days after being outed and exposed to serious workplace bullying, including management voicing its moral disapproval. Its a significant enough number, I cant find overall figures for the numbers of people who died by suicide in Ireland in the last few years.

I don't know the exact number either, it's over four hundred anyway
The true number is higher but many won't be recorded as suicide

More die from suicide every year then road accidents.

and many of those "accidents" are in fact suicides........ it's well accepted that a lot of single car collisions are suicide by less direct route.
