    Hi

I have a friend who has found that her grandmother was born somewhere near Gorey, possibly Plasnew? Does anyone know if this exists or not? I have checked the osi and google maps and can't find anything. Thank you!

There's a house near Clough (just outside Gorey) called Plasnew, but thats not the name of the area where the house is. is it an area or house that you are looking for?

Ian, thank you so much. I'm not sure if this is the one but I will definitely let my friend know. We have come to the conclusion that it must have been a house name. But we are going back quite possibly to the early 1920's or earlier. Thanks again for your help. - Grainne

No problem. The house name is present on historic osi maps but the house isn't listed on the buildings of Ireland website. Most often, old country houses with their names listed on maps were of some importance so this one is quite intriguing. Let me know if you find out anything interesting about the history of that place.

The Townsland is Ballaghboy, Just to the south west of Clogh.

Also, this may be of help in your search

    Hi Ian,

Again, thank you so much. The family my friend is looking for is Byrne. Her grandmother was born in the 1930's and apparently came from Plasnew, near Gorey. I will pass this information on to her and if I find out anything I will let you know. Regards - Grainne .

Byrne's eh? On the opposite side of the road is the townsland of Clogh, there are Byrnes listed on the 1911 census for that area. They may have lived close by to Plasnew
