Pe cell, solenoid or control box

Disconnect pe cell and allow to run, if it fires then goes to lock out replace pe cell
If not, remove solenoid and check resistance is approx 100 ohms, if not replace
If both are ok replace control box

Try disconnecting the photocell in the control box, then turn on, if it fires quickly reconnect it, if it runs its the photocell.

Then i would go for control box, had this complaint quite a bit and its either been photocell or control, more usual to be photocell.

what is it that gos in the control box like it dose not move or any thing so how do they brake? do they just burn out.

Billy, why would you quickly reconnect the PE cell? If it runs fires and lockouts when only pre purging when connected it proves the problem

Agree that going to lockout does prove the problem, but in my experience reconnecting after it fires but before lockout will keep it running, at least until it reaches temperature. :p

Several things with control boxes, electronics!! power surge, dampness poor connections.

Of course it will keep it going until the stat temp is reached, as the PE cell in failed in the 'see light' position, it has shorted

Exactly! but if you knew that why bother to ask. My posts arn't aimed at you DGOBS they were meant to help the OP, thats what we're here for, if you can prove the fault thats great but proving the fault and getting some heat on would be better, IMHO.

It can only be the PE cell, solenoid or control box that causes this issue

Billy, you taking me up wrong, was asking in case I was missing something, always new tricks to learn, and to be honest I would never evnen of thought of doing it to give some old dear a warm house (so I have learned something new) ,everyday is a learning day'

But I would normally have PE cells in stock, but a good tip!

Yeah, but after giving it some thought, don't think it would be a good idea to do it.

The cell is 'always seeing light' what if the flame failed!
It would continue to disperse oil into the hot surfaces of a boiler, creating vapor, and if it find ignition......http://b-static.net/vbulletin/images/icons/icon8.gif

A vapor ignition like that can be strong enough to blow of combustion chamber doors (have see a few that happened because of a brown out)
