    Hi All

Any advice offered would be greatly received. Im moving to the Uk next year and currently drive a 2008 Petrol Ford Focus and my speedometer is obviously in km not miles. In order for my car to be passed by the DVLA and get a UK reg I need to get this changed....has anyone had any experience of doing this.

    Thanks in advance.

Sell your car privetly here before you go.
Buy a newer/higher spec Focus when you get there.
Go on a holiday with the profit.

Would it not be a lot of hassle selling a car privately over here or are garages still taking them?

Its got over 60K on the clock, how much cud I expect to get for it?

    Thanks

That'll do the trick. Quite a common conversion in the UK as all Jap imports are in Km/H.

Or you coud buy a second hand set of UK clocks in MPH

I've done the reverse - I fitted a kmh speedo to a UK import. It was very easy on my Galaxy, once you get the exact instrument cluster (try a breakers). I think it took me less than an hour to do from tools out to tools away.

P.S. I seems to recall changing over the fascia only as I was nervous of any problems with the electronics. If you go down that route, there are a number of fascia manufactures you could buy off = these are very good quality:

Considering a new M3 has road tax of £240 over there, I'm wondering exactly what "high" is by his definition :pac:

Dealer cost in the UK for a 08 Focus with your milage is about €6,000.

Prices on Carzone for your car start at €7,500 and go up as far as €9,000.

Put it up for €7,499 on carzone and see if you get any takers.

You'll be able to get a newer Focus in the UK and not have the hassle and cost of converting Speedo etc.

Are you sure you need to do this? All you need is an overlay under the dashboad glass.

    @OP, SELL SELL SELL.

Your Irish car has a huge benefit over a UK car. Its the VRT which is not on UK cars.

As Twin-Go said above, sell it, buy a UK one and holiday on the profits!

Also, IF you are in the UK for more than 6 months and move back to Ireland, you can import the UK car for something like €20-30!
However, this this could involve a major paper trail including payslips, bank statements, rent books etc etc to prove to the Revenue that you lived in the UK for the last 6 months. You wont be able to sell it for a year after though!

    3) a professional, miles per hour, overlay is applied
directly to the speedometer face plate
, not the speedometer glass. (the overlay must be durable,
accurate, with markings visible in both day and night driving conditions). We can not accept
secondary devices, or any other changes.

    Nope

It's a feckin nightmare, still in the process of doing it with an Avensis, and did it last year with a Mondeo.

Clock change was £500, and you need to present the dealer invoice along with something on headed paper confirming that the clocks have been changed, so I'm not sure an overlay would do.
