Only been to one wedding that had one, (out of 12 weddings in the last few years) and I liked it!!!
I think they are back in fashion.
A new trend is ferrero rocher trees or marshmallow trees. Google images them.
I had ferrero rocher trees at my wedding last month and got some great compliments on them. If you can get them at a cash and carry it won't cost much to get them made up, or you can do a DIY job on it. Not that hard to do I think.
Don't know how much choc fountains are... But I love them!

If Im at 80 weddings a year, I would say the choco fountains are at 4 maybe 5 tops. I really dont know why theyre not more popular as they are ALWAYS a hit. I have never seen one not being talked about as a great addition to the day.

Im on the music side so no Im not involved in fountains but have to say I think they ROCK!!! marshmallows might be cheaper then strawberries for dipping but both if ya fancy spending a few quid.

I had one at my wedding in July and it seemed to go down well with the guests.
Almost positive it was €450(this was based on 150-200 guests and fountain was there from when guests arrived at the hotel until shortly before being called for dinner)

Our is included in our package which I'm quite glad about after reading this thread. :)

As the bride, and a notoriously messy eater I have been banned by my bridesmaid from eating anything at my one. White dress + chocolate fountain + messy eater = not a good idea :)

I think anything that provides a bit of entertainment, whilst also feeding people is good, especially if you're having any kids at your wedding.

If I can fit this into my budget I will defo have one

I have the option of it at my venue but I was thinking about taking something else instead. I was at a wedding in Galway that had one and saw at least 2 ladies with chocolate stains down the front of their dresses. I just think it's too messy, I then avoided the chocolate fountain :pac:

At least one of the hotels we looked at had it as an option, cheapest being €300 which we felt was too much to add to our budget. I'm thinking of buying one from argos and getting the chocolate online. The hotel we went with said they'd have no problem running it for us. Haven't cost the strawberries or anything yet though.

I was talking to a supplier at a wedding and he said the Bride ended up with chocolate on her dress after two doors had opened at the same time creating a draught

It is by its nature, quite messy. Big fluffy white dresses and runny chocolate are naturally magnetic to each other so brides beware.

I think they're just a tiny bit on the tacky side myself but I was quite tempted by a champagne fountain I saw at a wedding fair recently... it was way too expensive for my budget though. Something like €300 to hire/run it for two hours and then you had to supply all the fizz to go into it.

My friend had a chocolate fountain and at her wedding reception last summer and it was a lot of fun. Everyone had a try, especially the bride- white dress or not we couldn't keep her away from it!
I think they're worth it, they're a great attraction for the guests

What I think is better and is getting really popular is a sweet table with jars of all the old sweets from your childhood, cola bottles, jelly babies, sherbet dips, etc.

One of the weddings I was at even had the names of the wedding couple and wedding date printed on all of the jars, looked really professional.

It really brought out the child in all of us:)

yes, ferrero rocher trees and sweets in the jar is definitely in fashion now. Every wedding forum has brides who have either made one or got one, and seen lots of pictures of weddings where there were sweets jars.
Weddingsonline.ie has info on how to make a ferrero tree.

Personally, I did want a choc fountain for the wedding but OH thought it was unhygienic and tacky, so we didn't get one.
I think the messiness of it is the main thing to consider when deciding on whether to get one.

We are having one at our wedding next March :D I was told they are gone very passé but I don't care, its just a bit of fun.

I think we are paying €350 for ours (approx 160 guests) and that is from the same supplier we are getting our cake from and it will be fully staffed.

We had one at our wedding and it went down an absolute storm. Didn't see anyone making a mess of themselves - in fairness, it's generally done on arrival at the hotel, so everyone is (should be!) still sober.

Think we paid about €350 for ours and that included a choice of 5 different food items to dip - we went with strawberries, marshmallows, mini donuts, mini choc-chip cookies and something else, which I can't remember!

we did this at our wedding from a company called "sweet love" it was about 450e i think and went down a treat with everyone, once the meal was called the sweets were boxed up in our personalised sweet boxes and brought to the dinner room for the evening guests, looked great all round.

If you do go for a chocolate fountain then make sure to actually taste it before you book it. A lot of them are horrible.

Yup, they add vegetable oil, and a good bit of it, to make the chocolate glossy looking.

And presumably to keep it flowing without seizing too.

Surely if you supply napkins all someone has to do is hold the choc dipped strawberry/marshmallow over the napkin until they eat it?

I'd have one at my wedding*

*but I am a sad singleton

You would think that would solve the mess, but it doesnt :)

I've just been informed that a beer fountain wouldn't work due to the froth/ head. Hopes = dashed :pac:

I know, right. Some people are just silly. Very excited about having one even though I probably won't even get to see it!

You can get them with champagne / sparkling wine. Have seen one at a wedding fair and it looked very cool :)
