Big difference in Tarmacadam quotes

Just gotten three quotes from local companies to do my driveway which I measured at 270 sq metres. They measured it at 300+ square metres but thats another story.

Anyways the quotes came in at €2,900, €3,400 and €4,000. The last quote is from a guy who's highly recommended and who has done work in the area that I've seen and liked. However his quote is for just 2 inches of rolled tarmac whereas the other two are for 2.5 inches.

My gut feeling is to go for the dearest guy as he appears to do good work but there is a difference of over a thousand between his quote and the cheapest (the next cheapest said he'd match any lower quote). I made the mistake of going with the lowest bidder to build my house and that did not turn out well:mad:, so I'm not going to just jump at the cheapest price, especially as I don't know the other two contractors or their work. However I could be misjudging them, and at my expense:o.

    Any opinions?

60mm of tarmac would cost you in the region of €8-€9 + VAT/m2 complete. I'm assuming you have your hardcore and granular blinding already in place? If not this would cost you in the region of €6-€7 + VAT/m2 assuming a depth of 225mm for hardcore.

Yes I have rolled 804 in place for 5 years now (well settled) with precast concrete kerbing. So the quote is just for the tarmac job.
