i can't wait to see the photographs people take on this. they will be *so* much better than any photos we've seen before.

Doesn't seem too shabby. Will be curious to hear people's thoughts on it. New autofocus system seems to be a good idea, but would be curious to hear how it performs in reality.

Wouldn't spend that money on it though. 7D is still the best value for money camera I think I've ever come across. Fantastic camera too. I won't be jealous of anyone with a 1DX.

I've been waiting all morning for that sports bloke Paul to show up and tell us he's getting one.

That's no excuse... surely there's internet where he is and he can log on and uphold a long standing tradition!

PS. Personally I'm disappointed they didn't break their own 21 megapixels record.

Seriously though, I am in the market for an upgrade soon, but as good as this camera looks on paper, I think I'll hold out and see what the 5DmkIII has to offer. Although with this one coming in March, that could be quite a ways off yet.

The quoted price of this new 1D borders on the obscene to be honest, but I know if someone put one in my hands, and I had the money in the bank, all logic could go out the window.

for a bit of a laugh, i took the second half of that article, translated it into french in google translate, from french to german, and from german to english.
The EOS-1D X entsorgen three DIGIC processors, including 5 + Doppel DIGIC image processors capable of delivering 17 times Umwelt processing speed DIGIC 4 sowie, and a dedicated DIGIC 4 for counting and control AF. In conjunction with the New 18-Megapixel High Leistung full-frame Canon CMOS sensor, DIGIC processors + 5 Doppel provide high-speed Continuous Shooting, less noise and an increase signifikative the speed of data processing that Präzedenzfälle EOS - 1D. This new level of speed of data processing allows the EOS-1D X to perform many functions including Korrektur Aberrationen of color for different Canon EF lenses in camera rather than the Postproduktion Software. DIGIC 4 nutzen a new 100,000 pixel RGB sensor for accurate measurement Erwachsen the exhibition with color and Erkennung face and works with ITR Zusammenarbeit of the EOS (Intelligent Monitoring and Enlightenment) AF.

The EOS-1D X nutzen an entirely new imaging sensor, producing the least noise of any EOS digital camera to date for Porträts beautiful and work-Studio. The new 18-Megapixel full frame CMOS sensor nutzen big pixels - 1.25 Mikron sowie larger than those in the sensor EOS-1D Mark IV and 0.55 Mikron sowie larger than those in the sensor EOS 5D Mark II - with microlenses for lückenlose Bitte wählen markieren improved light collection efficiency, high sensitivity more and less noise at the pixel level. The new sensor ein improved the already very high signal to noise output of the sensor of the EOS for earlier models of image quality, even in extremely low light. When combined with the 5 + Doppel DIGIC imaging processor, the results are amazing. The new sensor Bilder produced with the EOS-1D Kamera X are so clean that files can be easily up to size if necessary, even for the most demanding high-resolution commercial Anwendungen. The EOS-1D X will also feature new ultrasonic cleaning Wave Motion (UWMC), Canon second sensor unit der Generation Self-cleaning technology that nutzen of the carrier wave to remove dust particles from the Smaller probe and MASSEINHEIT SCHLIEßT a fluorine coating on the new infrared absorption glass to help repel dust.

The ability of low light of the EOS-1D X is evident in his amazing ISO range and ability to shoot in very low light. Adjustable from ISO 100 to 51 200 in its standard range, the new model offers a low ISO setting 50 for studio and landscape photography and two students parameterN 102 400 204 800 A H1 and H2 in the, ideal for Anwendung laws, government or judicial Anwendungen field.

still makes as much sense as the original.

It does look like an amazing piece of kit. Alas, its awesome power has rendered my Nikon D700 useless and redundant, I'm off to buy a 1000D...

actually - to take up my own point here. i may be somewhat sarcastic about releases of cameras like this, yet there are cameras out there (a lot of them very expensive) i'd love to get my hands on, e.g. a leica.

i suppose what i'd be looking for though is different to what gets people drooling about cameras like the canon, though. framerates mean nothing to me, nor does talk of processors and megapixels don't excite me.

I'm quite happy for manufacturers to hold off on the megapixels, strange though they tout this camera as a replacement to the 1dsmk3, must be feeling the pinch and consolidating the models after everybody bought a 5dmk2 instead of a pro body. I wouldnt be too happy with the focus point spread, seems to be to concentrated on the centre where the 1dmk3/4 happily live on the outer points which I personally like for composition.

Full frame move wont help the sports togs either, similar to the D2xs move to the D3

Hate to see the Irish price, prepare to bend over and get proper fooked :)

The single biggest complaint Sony users over on dpreview have about the new A65 and A77 (both APS-C sensors) is that they're 24MP and not 16MP.

Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

To be honest I was being sarcastic about the megapixels :)

The equipment whore in me is peaked digitally after the 5D Mark II... upgrade after upgrade I finally realised that it was a bit of a fad.

But each to their own of course.

Why is that a complaint, out of curiousity?

I don't base my purchasing decisions on MP count, but at the same time, I don't see the downside to having more?

Noise. More pixels means smaller photosites and less surface area per pixel. A lot of newer SLRs have microlens arrays to help overcome this and they're getting better at making the sensors more efficient.

I just watched a clip on youtube of the 1D-X shutter going at 14FPS. Holy mother, that is quick! The way things are going, I'd say 25FPS is only a few years away. Imagine 18MP still-quality video...

Mainly because of noise at high ISO (but we're talking pixel peeping stuff here), and a bit because of the size of the files (and the buffer). The A77 can do 12fps, but the buffer fills up after just under 2 seconds. The 1D X can do 14 fps, and I think I read somewhere that the buffer fills at about 4 seconds.

Personally, as an owner of the a77, nether issue bothers me. 24 mp gives you a bit more latitude for cropping. RAW file sizes are big, though.

Should be more than 4 seconds, the 1dmk3 can shoot over 100 jpegs at 10fps without pause, that is if you want to :)

This is where I read it http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1037&message=39625708 - the person who said it seems to have just based it on the video of the 1DX shooting at 14fps and the shot count on the LCD going up. Probably not a very scientific analysis, and we don't know what image settings the camera was at (JPEG, RAW, etc) or what speed card was used. So yeah, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

One thing's for sure, it's no slouch!

Just thought Id resurrect this thread from the dead. My brother was given a 1DX preproduction to test and shot these:

I had my hands on a pre-production model last weekend. It's a very heavy body, even compared to the 1D MkIV.

I didn't get to shoot with it, but did see shots from it. ISO performance is just stunning. I saw shots of ISO 4000 and they looked as good or better than shots with ISO 400 on a 1D MkIV.

The AF has so many functions to it, and can be highly tuned.

    In short - I want. :D
