    try ebay.co.uk.
maybe then find another engine, if so hard to find head.

It can be very difficult to source engines/heads for those, A customer of mine had to have a complete engine shipped from the UK after weeks trying to find one.

There was a guy on adverts.ie breaking one of these a few weeks ago. Have a look, it's still there afaik.

will heads from other engine codes not fit? E.g AWT like is popular here.
AEB is supposed to have bigger valves, dunno if that would slot in.

Also try ebay in germany or NL, I got some stuff from there.

There is a LOT of interchangeability with these 1.8 heads. Basically you need to verify the following:

Does your existing head have an SAI port?
Does your existing head have a VVT unit?

AEB is the only big port as far as I know. It will bolt on, but you will have mismatched manifolds and debatably poor running.
Based on your current config you can add or remove the VVT unit from a new prospective head. SAI of course you either need a head with the port, or decide to delete it from your car.

Some good 1.8T info here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2666114-1.8t-Technical-Forum-Guide-FAQs-Tuning-Modification-Assistance-Troubleshooting

A while ago I cracked the head in our 1.8T Beetle, engine code APH. Couldn't find an APH head to save my life. Ended up getting a totally different code. Can't recall which it was but it had an SAI port (as did my APH) but no VVT. Transferred my VVT unit over as well as some valves (head I bought had bent valves hence el cheapo) and got back on the road
