I come from Nokia and have used Ovi maps before.
When I started using the iphone GPS (Navfree, Skobbler Satnav2) I find it lagging.
It's like when I turn a corner and drive on it takes 50 meters or so before the GPS cops I'm actually on a new street.
It's the same for both apps so I take it that it's the GPS itself in the phone that lags and not the apps.
On the Nokia it was always spot on so I'm thinking the iphone may have a lesser grade GPS?
I've a 3gs, is it the same for iphone 4?
Btw, had 435 on it and now ios5, no change in track speed.

I have the IP4 and while its not as bad as that its still nowhere near a normal satnav and really struggles when there's cloud.
Usually though when it has a signal it does follow without lag for 95% of the time.
    I'm using TomTom btw.

I use my Nokia and it works very well.

When I want to use my wifi ipad for GPS, I port the GPS signal over so I have the benefit if the iPad software and size and the performance of the Nokia GPS.

I'd say it's the iPhone, it has a signal reception problem and it's magnified when trying to use services over the network ~ the iPhone is not a stand alone GPS and it interrogates phone cell-towers.
