My girlfriend has an immaculate unlocked iphone for sale. She has all the bits and bobs that came with it including the box. What would be a reasonable price to sell it for? Would ebay be the best place to sell it or is Adverts.ie better?

    Thanks

A quick search of adverts indicates that the asking price seems to be around the 165 mark - but for 250, there are loads of 3GS 32GB models, which seems strange. I know I'd shell out that little bit extra.

You'd need to see how much they actually go for though, not how much they're listed for.

eBay will take a 10% commission if you sell it, so it'd need to go for that little bit more for you to get the same amount as you would on adverts. Plus the amount of scammers on eBay is unreal.

    I'd sell it on eBay
I've sold broken 3GS iPhones for up to €200

I think you would be lucky if you got 165euro.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'm going to try selling it on ebay and put a reserve of 150 on it and see what happens :)

Sorry I misread and thought it was a 3GS.
I've personally sold 3g iphones for €100 recently so I wouldn't expect much more than this

The asking prices on adverts did seem quite high to me!

I sold a good condition (i.e. cosmetic scuffs) 16GB 3G via adverts.ie 6 months ago for €150. I think from looking around I had originally put it up at what I thought was market value of €250-odd, but I had few bites at that level.

At this stage, €100 would be the ceiling for an 8GB 3G IMO.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll post back and let you know how it goes. I'm going to put it up on ebay

The bidding has just ended on the iPhone and the winning bid was 255 (265+postsage)

I don't understand why it could have sold for this much? There were a few bidders pushing the price up from 200. One was a new user who just signed up last night and put a first bid in at 255?

The winner has been bidding from the start and has paid the 265 into my paypal account already,

but I had told another bidder that I thought some one was messing up the bids so I would sel it to them for there bid of 205.

What should I do, does this look fishy??

What country is the shipping address? Does the seller have an English sounding name? If so then try and get a conversation about shipping or something going to see how their English is. Often times the scammer will make up a name that they think sounds local to the area, but it doesn't take long before its obvious theyre not locals. Not a foolproof method by any means of course.

Certainly I'd be on my guard too. New user and paying way over the odds?

I don't know what happens if it turns out that PayPal account is hacked. Does PayPal debit your account leaving you out an iPhone and the cash? eBay can be a nighmare for sellers.

The winning bidder does seem legit. The have 20 positive feed backs and they have been a member since 2006. The have an Irish name and live in Sandyford, thats the postal address.

The funny thing is I had 3 legit looking bidders putting bids up of 250 and one bidder that was created last night which I blocked. When I removed that bidder the then highest bid dropped back to 205. Then today it shot back up to 255 with their automatic bids?

If you look at the bid history, you'll see the pattern. Maybe someone used an auction sniping tool to get in a last minute bid, which pushed up the other max bids. It sounds good though - you must be very happy with the price you got for it!

I've accepted the PayPal payment and its gone through fine and is now in my account. I did check her bidding history to see what she had bought and it all looks good, some expensive stuff in there.

I've just finished restoring and updating the phone. I've put a pin lock on as well and taken its serial number etc...

This way when she gets the phone she will have to contact me for the pin lock, that way I'll know it wasn't DOA. She can't say it didn't work and send me back a different phone.

The phone is completely free of any marks, its always had a cover and screen protector on. At least their getting a good quality phone :-)
