Repair a radiator bleed valve.

Hi All,

I have managed to break off the tip of the bleed screw on my kitchen double radiator. Its threaded into the rad and looks a poor design in comparison to other rads in the house.

How should I go about a repair here? Can it be drilled and tapped or do I need the hands of a professional?

It can be tapped and removed and replaced and tbh its something i could never master.

New ones i use to sell for 25c. They probl sell for about a euro if the lazy buggers in the providers will look for them. They are about 1/8 from memory.

If still possible install an autovent.
These vents need no brutal handling, once installed they last as long as the radiator.
The exercise to install a new radiator in case a standard penny-vent fails is not justified.
Auto vents cost around €5 if bought single, a dozen of them come considerable cheaper. Once installed forget about "bleeding" for ever.

Forget about the vent. You only really have 2 options now.

Either replace the rad or drill a small hole on the top of it and use a self tapping screw as a new vent. If you go for the latter, ensure you turn off rad on both sides before drilling.
