Since a lot of folks in here seem to be opting for a more pared back Christmas again this year, I was wondering if there could be a thread for Christmas Markets that are taking place locally around the country? I was googling to try and find if there were any performances of The Messiah this year (usually on in St. Patricks or the NCH) and I came across this: Christmas market in Fitzwilliam Square

    From the website:
Welcome to the Dublin Christmas Market at Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin's newest and best Christmas Market. Located in the heart of the City Centre, in one of Ireland's most treasured gardens, the Fitzwilliam Square Christmas Market is a place to visit for all the family. With over 70 stalls lit up by more than a 1,000 Christmas lights, it is going to be a fun filled delight for all your Christmas Shopping.

The first Friday of December (3rd Dec) marks the opening of the
Christmas market. With its Georgian charm you will be tempted by the aromas of the season in this wonderful historic square.

It's open for nearly the whole month of December and it looks like it might end up being pretty good- anyone got any more?

Galway City Christmas Market starts November 25th and is on until just before Christmas I think.

There's a one day one on in the Menlo Park Hotel: http://www.facebook.com/galwaychristmascraftfair

and Raheen Woods Hotel, not sure what date that one is though. Ballinasloe Christmas Craft Fair is on November 13th in Gullane's Hotel in the town, I went to two there last year and there was a great turn out at the first one which was organised by the same person as this year's one: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=208463132554916

Claregalway Market is on every weekend anyway, but I assume it'll get more Christmassy in the next months!

There's one in Belfast from 19th November to 18th December in the grounds of the City Hall. My former girlfriend's mother was there last year and reckoned it's okay for a couple of hours (only about 40 stalls and most of 'em selling food). Official site here

I love the RDS craft fair on the 30th of Nov to the 4th december. It's so christmasy! I've gone every year since I was a kid and I adore it.
Happiness is looking at all the christmas stand while drinking a hot apple juice nom

I think Dun Laoghaire are doing a Christmas Village for the 3 weeks leading up to Christmas Day.

A Craft fair?? Nuts, I'm going to miss it! :(

Apparently Malahide are having a Christmas fair this Saturday. They're closing off the whole of New Street for it.

The one in Fitzwilliam Square was like Narnia last year with all the snow - gorgeous. The docklands one is great too.

OP the Grand Canal Theatre are holding performances of Messiah on 4th and 11th December http://www.grandcanaltheatre.ie/eventDetail.aspx?mid=188&eventId=196
