its a grand tv, iv got the 32' inch model its pretty good plenty of hdmi slots and good picture quailty as its full hd.

the only thing i can fault it on is sound wise it isnt great but its not that bad, if sound is what your looking for you can pick up a decent surround sound kit for pretty cheap these days maybe under 50 euro.

might get this model as a second tv for the bedroom myself.

Cheers for the reply.. seriously considering it now for the price as other 24-28" inch tv's such as samsung all seem to be 280-400!

Sound wouldn't be too much of a problem as I cant have it blaring loudly too much.

Can this be used as a PC monitor?

It can indeed but I think I read somewhere that it might not be the best for a monitor, says on the xtra vision site that it "can be used a PC monitor". Not sure if there is a VGA connection on it though incase you aren't able to use a HDMI connection but it does say that there is PC input available on the connectivity section in the product details.

Looking at the pics available it has a VGA input for a PC as well as an audio jack input for sound.

There seems to be some doubt on the Boards Terrestrial forum about ST series, at least there was in 2010.
Still - they shouldn't be selling it if it does not work with Saorview, unless they specifically say it's for use with UPC or Sky, or that it will work if you add a Saorview box!
Suggest you specifically ask about Saorview when buying it. Seems a good price if it's the real deal.

I checked this morning when considering getting one for use with PC as dual purpose TV/Monitor

I was told by the store that it is NOT suitable for Saorview ..... "doesn't have MPEG-4 which is why it is cheap and being sold off" ...

.... so no MPEG-4 HD decoder it seems ...

    I'll pass.

If your tv has the MPEG-4 does this mean you don't need the saorview box and dish?

A bit of topic but is saorview a 1 of fee or do you pay every month? because you don't get many channels at all.

To the poster above can't qoute your comment I'm on my phone but I could have swore they were made on germany, I was told that by the sales rep in extra vision !

I think that this summarises Saorview but am open to correction:

Saorview is the name for Digital TV in Ireland. Digital TV is free - there are no monthly fees. To get Digital TV one needs:

An aerial NOT a dish and:

A MPEG4 enabled TV (If you want teletext you need MPEG5)
    OR
A TV connected to a Saorview receiver box.

At the moment one receives, RTE One, RTE Two, TV3, 3e, TG4, and a few other RTE channels like RTE one +1 and RTE News Now.

Well I've no intention for using this for Saorview.. Just for my Xbox 360 and watch some TV shows or Movies!

Seems pretty suitable for this kinda stuff??

Should be - and if need be you will probably be able to get a basic Saorview adapter/box for less than 30 yoyos before long.
Won't be as neat as having a TV that can handle Saorview and record to USB/disc, all nice and neat on one remote etc. - but as long as you know what you are getting it seems a great price.

might just try and go with the hanspree, they're cheap and there hasnt been anyone as of yet saying they're a really bad TV, although I know they wouldnt be the best out there, but for the price I think it will do for my needs.

Just want to get one thing very clear:

I'm on the 25" Hannspree tv (€229) which has saorview and works fine as my pc monitor via HDMI.

The TV for €179.99 is the same model, with close enough specs, but does not support Saorview. I was talking to both the stores in Ennis and in Shannon before I bought my tv.

The €229 25" tv has Saorview, the €179 one does not.

Add another 20 euro and you get the LG 32 inch Full HD/Saorview then.;)

€20 on top of the €180 or €230?

Also, I was going to get the 32" Hannspree it's just thats way too big for a pc monitor.

The LG is 250 euro (well 249 euro,to be exact).:)

So for an extra 20 euro, you get a bigger 32 inch full hd/saorview TV.

    Its a no brainer really.

Not necessarily. I'm on the lookout for a television for a bedroom. Something between 22-26" would fit the bill. While a 32" might be better value it's just too large in my case.

Exactly the same as me; looking for a 24-28" for the bedroom for my Xbox 360.. 32" would be too large, although it is a great deal indeed!!

So either this 25" hanspree or the 28" hanspree I saw on Pixmania.com will do the job.
