Has anyone taken a look at the accommodation available in lexislip as opposed to maynooth? It seems like you can get a very decent apartment in lexislip for the same price you'd pay for an absolute sh1thole in maynooth. It really puts into perspective the kind of filthy gombeen slimey greedy landlords that exist in maynooth. Is anyone renting in Leixslip this year?

Im in leixlip for that exact reason , I am in a 3 bed house which is decent , has gas central heating, everything works and the furiture is nice , 900 a month total rent and easily split between 3 , has 2 large double rooms and even the box room you could just about get a double bed, wardrobe and desk in if you moved things around. its 2 mins walk from the train to maynooth (10 minutes) or a bus to town and its less than a minutes walk from pub, shop, offo, chipper and a library

When I went looking for houses I was looking in maynooth and couldnt find anything nearly as convenient or in any way nice for below 1200 for a 3 bed, living in maynooth would be handy but when i cant get home I stay on a couch, worst case taxi is 12-14 euro for 4 people coming home so thats alright for the saving of 300 a month total , that and the traffic isnt as bad as maynooth for getting places.

in reality maynooth is a great place to live if you can find a nice house , but in all honesty I cant justify 300 extra a month to live in a shít gaf that i mightent even be able to get broadband in (upc are upgrading my current house to 100mb fibre at the moment)

thanks for sharing that cartman. i find it incredible that most houses in maynooth have no broadband connection whatsoever. when i question the landlords on this issue they assume i am talking about some sort of space age technology or you might get from the more informed landlords in maynooth ''sure theres internet in the university''. one landlord suggested i buy mobile broadband (as though i never considered this) which i said to her that mobile broadband is a nightmare. i told her that i had bad experiences in the past with this type of broadband where i would watch a video on youtube and bam my credit was gone. but typical filth that this landlord was suggested that i walk to the university which was almost 1.5 miles away.
most of the landlords in maynooth are absolute low lifes. i would love to post some pictures from daft on here to demonstrate this but im not sure about the forum rules.

cartman how do you find commuting? would you recommend leixslip?

Im fairly sure links from daft would be ok, some of the things ive seen in maynooth man , houses where back door windows were fixed with plywood , back ardens with 3-4 ft high grass , no working heating or hot water , rooms covered in mould , broken furniture from the 60s and people pay top notch for it

I drive so im only 10 mins away from maynooth at any time but when i was in first year i used to get the train , student monthly ticket , trains run every hour and take 10 mins

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

i've just been house hunting in Maynooth a couple of months ago, and almost all the houses i looked at had internet, and all were capable of getting it. i'd be surprised if there is any house in maynooth that can't get broadband from either UPC or eircom/other DSL providers.

i've lived in both Leixlip and Maynooth, and Maynooth is a hell of a lot nicer.

no they don't, get real.
there's just as many, if not more places like that in Leixlip than Maynooth anway.

you obviously weren't looking too hard if you couldn't find a decent 3-bed place in maynooth for under 1200.
my last house in Maynooth was in Rockfield, one of the nicest estates in Maynooth IMO. 1100 for 3 double rooms and a box room, UPC internet, Sky tv, GFCH, washer, dryer, dishwasher, widesceen tv, etc.

im not denying that there arent houses unfit to live in in leixlip , but generally they dont seem to command the same rent or even near what youd pay in maynooth for such a house

your example was of a 4 bed house which I didnt have the people to fill at the time , i wasnt looking at anything that was over 950 euro so I wouldnt have even seen such a house listed. Rockfield is lovely , so is glen easton where I used to live aswell, pretty much all of those newer estates are nice no matter where, it would be unfair to compare old greenfield to glen easton or rockfield to avondale ,

when I went looking for houses under 950 , 3 bed in maynooth , that would take students i found 2 houses that were nice , but I couldnt get UPC in them
and pretty much all the rest had faults with heating, appliances , odd shaped/tiny rooms , having storage heaters or just generally being dirty

I live in Leixlip myself and I find the commute fine.

Buses come every 1/2 hour or so and it costs €1.85 to get over to Maynooth. The trains vary depending on the time of day: about every 1/2 hour in the morning, every hour in the afternoon, and they become more frequent again between 4-7pm. The train costs €2.05 per journey.

ya i bet they did. i'd luv to know where all those houses were? do you know that broadband companies arent so interested in doing business with students and make it very difficult for them to get broadband if they dont work? i tried on many occassions to do so but to no avail.

    1. I rent.

    2. No. I don't know why I came up with the name. I regret it- too many syllables.

Ah now, I've never heard of anyone having problems getting broadband in Maynooth, apart from some houses in the land that time forgot Kingsbry. And these would all be students as well.

Do agree with the fact that rent in Maynooth can be ridiculous though. I imagine it's because the landlords know that someone is always going to want the house, regardless of what it's like. A lot of people can end up paying a lot more then they should for houses just because they don't know any better.

they just serve to highlight the nonsense in your post. saying that most houses in maynooth don't have a broadband connection is either a lie, or just complete stupidity.
most estates in maynooth can get UPC.
all estates in maynooth can get DSL broadband from eircom/other DSL resellers.

they were all over maynooth, i've lived most of my adult life in various estates in maynooth and all of them are capable of receiving broadband. a few of those years i was a student too.
broadband companies will do business with whoever signs up with them and pays them money. UPC will do 9 month contracts for students. eircom AFAIK won't, but will do 12month ones. the vast majority of rentals in maynooth are for 1year contracts, so not much of a problem there. if students only have the house for 9months, they'll end up paying for 3months unused/breaking the contract.
the ins and outs of getting broadband are really here nor there though, as you claim that most houses in maynooth don't have a broadband connection, which is just completely untrue.

right, so it's not a case of "people pay top notch", rather people pay more compared to leixlip? there is no house that matches that description, or similar in maynooth, that anyone is paying "top notch" for.
your example was of a 4 bed house which I didnt have the people to fill at the time , i wasnt looking at anything that was over 950 euro so I wouldnt have even seen such a house listed. you said you couldn't get anywhere nice or convenient for under 1200 for a 3-bed.
now you say you weren't looking at anything over 950.
which is it? 950 or 1200?

yes, my example was of a 4bed for 1100, you wouldn't need to fill it as you'd have 3 people in 3 double rooms, and a spare box room, and 100 quid left over....

when i was looking for houses in Leixlip, i found plenty of ones that didn't suit for reasons similar to yours.

    incidentally, i've just looked at Daft to see if prices have fallen much since i was looking for places in Leixlip, and they're just as expensive as Maynooth;
2 beds around the 850 mark
    3beds - 850-1100
    4beds - 1200+

you say that most houses don't have an internet connection.
if they're capable of getting internet, they have an internet connection.

after that, the owner/tenant has to open an account with the broadband company for the internet service to be turned on.

it's like electricity, everyone has a connection, whether that is enabled or not depends on whether the account is open and the bill has been paid.

They certainly do, Maynooth is full of scumbag rent farming landlords. I viewed a room in kingsbry five years ago with no floor covering, a 'desk' which I'm reasonably sure was stolen from an exam hall, and where one corner of the room (this was on the first floor) was visibly sinking. Downstairs the living room was converted to a barely habitable twin room, and the house was full with paying tenants.

This was one amongst many, I'm sure long-termers know the usual areas......

If you have a problem with tenancies in Maynooth then you can complain to the University. We were in a place (6 of us) that was listed as a 5 bedroom house. 4 single rooms and 1 twin (that my partner and I converted to a double). The place was a mess. The twin/double room was converted from the sitting room and the kitchen became the kitchen/dining room/sitting room. Problems with storage in every room and one bed kept up with ply wood. Landlady said it was a 3rd year/post grad standard accomodation - and she was a dept secretary!!

But basically we complained and she got removed from the university's housing list until she fixed it up.

I live in a v.nice house in "the land that time forgot" ;-) and use Wimax. They're great because it's a plug in wifi connection so you don't need a phone line and if you move off you just take it with you..

thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. so if im capable of driving does it mean i have a car? no, it certainly does not. are you sure you went to college?

I live in a nice house in Carton Court - 5 bed rooms (1 ensuite, 3 double, 1 single) for 1100 a month. There are nice houses out there to be found cheaply if you keep an eye on daft and get lucky :) Ours was up for 2 months before we rented it and got 100 euro a month off the rent just by asking, so don't be afraid to haggle haha... Our landlady is lovely too and fixes everything straight away... just hope she lets us renew our lease :D

The previous place was pretty much a kip with a useless landlord though...

he's not a mod in here

anyway the rule is that as you leave dublin rents get cheaper... except for maynooth. handy for commuting and it's a student town. higher prices.
you could also consider kilcock as well it'll be cheaper

If you weren't so harsh and didn't insinuate that your previous poster was less
intelligent than you I doubt LR would have replied in such a way.
People need to be nice on here and not throw round the 'idiot' card.
Just because you have a university education
doesn't mean you have the right to publicly insult someone on a forum.
Also Leixlip, leave the masturbation for after hours :pac:
