Ok living in apartment , there is a cable type connection in sitting room but no other rooms , a previous tenant previously had their upc broadband through this cable .

So current setup is tv is in bedroom using standard rabbit ears aerial .

What are my options with regard to saorview
Will it work with a rabbit ears aerial , signal is ok at best to be honest .

Sort of confused on what to do here its only rented accomodation so no point spending big money.

The apartment is probably wired for UPC TV, brodband etc.

Your only option for Saorview may the rabbit ears aerial. Best if located at a window facing in the direction of the transmittter.

Saorview STB or TV required. OK analogue reception with internal aerial should gve you OK Saorview reception.

Im also a little confused,I have upc in my apartment, hdtv and the upc pvr in the sitting room and a upc box in all the rooms.
In my bedroom i have a tv (non hd) connected to the upc wall connection through a cable,on this tv i get maybe 14 channels from upc (rte's,bbc 1 & 2,itv,sky one,sky news etc) does this mean i will lose these channels when the switch over comes?
I dont want any of the saorview proposed channels,i just want what i have currently.

The switchover only affects people who get their TV channels using an aerial.
Cable and Sky customers are not affected.

It's worth trying this amplified aerial from Argos, it's slim reasonably priced and if it doesn't work you can bring it back.

Outkast_IRE, The Cush has answered your question above, that last response from Markk was answering the question from barryd09.

This is what happens when B hijacks piggybacks on a thread started by A.

Thanks for the responses i suppose whatever way it works out a set top box will be needed so no harm picking one up and trying it with standard aerial and work from there.

Any recs for set top box best value for money?

you won't go far wrong with this one €49.99 from argos.

Sam Russel has one that fits behind the TV and plugs straight into the Scart, it was €45, don't know if he is still selling them, check Adverts.ie.

Don't know if it is the same brand, but I bought one of those Scart ones a few years ago and it only lasted a year. The remoted that came with it was rubbish too. And it was too heavy for the Scart port, kept falling out.

I live in a fairly rural area in north wexford (outside Bunclody)
I can only barely get RTE 1, RTE2 and TnaG using a "cats ears antenna" (picture is very fuzzy and "snowy"):(

How do I determine wether the Saorview service will work in my home..???

I know I will need to buy a UHF ariel and a saorview approved box, but I would like to be sure it will work prior to purchasing the above hardware.. Who do I call to check my signal??

If he'd googled 'saorview' he would have found that.

Why do people have to be pointed to everything?

You cant believe everything on the internet!

I have seen posts here whereby people dont realise that an aerial has to be connected to the TV for Saorview. Some people dont do technical however basic as they might never had to have these nuggets of technical wisdom. They really dont want to know. They just want it working.

Doesn't make me a better person knowing the answer, but hey you learn something new everyday, sometimes even on technical fora!

I doubt if it is the same brand. The ones I had were not heavy or power hungry (8W). Of all the ones I sold, all are working, as far as I know. I know the year is not up yet, but some would have failed by now if they were poor quality. However, I have no more for sale.
