Hi, Im new to all things iPhone but Ive been using a Gevey sim in order for my sim to work (phone is locked to Vodafone I'm meteor).
Anyway now I can't get passed the set up of new software it keeps asking for a sim from the original provider.
Is there anyway to get passed this? Or undo the upgrade???

Its been known for months that the Gevey Sim won't work with iOS 5. Did you have a look at http://www.geveysim.org/ Thats probably the best place to start.

Thanks for the link. Do you know if it's possible to restore/downgrade the phone to an older 4.3... iPhone software?

You could try find a friend who is a good vodafone customer and ask them to request the unlock code for you, to get it factory unlocked.

Or wait for a new Gevey Sim card to come out that supports 5.0

Yes, the new 04.11.08 baseband blocks the Gevey SIM.

And rather than use the tedious 112, airplane on/off method, you just switch to carrier, when your provider comes up, click on it and your sim is good to go. This method is much better than the dubious emergency call set up.

you can downgrade to 4.1 anyway,
if you've saved shsh blobs you can downgrade to whatever version you saved them from.
not sure if your gevey is incompatible with the new baseband or firmware so you'll have to try it.

AFIAK the Gevey ULTRA Red, Yellow and Green(unofficial geveys) work on ios5

If you have the SHSH blobs saved then you can downgrade to that version - I downgraded back to 4.3.3 from 5.0 as I didn't like the tethered jailbreak. Despite this you cannot downgrade the baseband.
