    Hi,

I have been contracting for 12 years+ and have been told that I am going to be given an offer for a permanent job.

Could someone give me details on how to calculate a figure that I should expect to get offered?

    Thanks in advance.

    Market rate multiplied by 1.

hourly rate x 2 is a rule of thumb I heard to convert contract rate ito permanent salary.

Are there any differences in pension / health care / sick leave / annual leave etc between the contract and the permanent roles? There could be a lot of variables to take into account.

I'm sure there is , but for now I don't have any details.

I'm looking for a ball park calculation.

Well if this was an IT job normally the permanent job would be the same or less then the contract rates.

    What industry are you in?

    IT.
I realise the permanent salary is going to be less than I am on at the moment. But I was just wondering how much less.

I have been told that it is a one time offer i.e. no negotiations.

    I'm thinking along these lines:

    ( My current daily rate X 44 weeks ) - 10K.

Is that a reasonable expectation or should I expect less?

But all those factors could make a big difference, so a ball park figure could still be way off.

We have contractors in our place, but they're on a pro-rated version of what a permanent person is on (including most of the same benefits), so there would be little difference between a permanent/contract package.

I think techni-fan's forumula is the only real one.

Why are you being made this offer - is it because you've been contracting at the same place for 12 years and Revenue are leaning on them that you're really an employee? Or is it because somehwere new wants you, but doesn't "do" contactors.

What's the market like for your skillset? If you turn this down, how likely are you to get another gig that pays as well (after you've figured in training, illness, holidays etc - only you can know how much you budget for those).

Are you female - any chance you might get pregnant and want maternity leave/benefit?

How much would you be willing to work for?

How much do your permie friends in similar roles get?

And in the end .. how much do you want the job? Would it be a good company to work for? Do you LIKE the boss, and the work?

    Etc.

I'm based in Letterkenny at the moment and it is a hell of a lot cheaper to live here than in Dublin

I have only been contracting with this company for 12 months.

    I'm male.

If I moved back to Dublin I could almost Double my contracting rate. But I have saved more money here than I have in 11 years working in Dublin.

The other thing that is holding me back is, when i'm permanent I have to deal with politics, performance reviews and all those things a contractor doesn't have to care about.

    Hi OP, this may help.

It's more designed to go the other way as far as I can see, but I think you can just reverse it.

No one will really give you an answer unless they know specifics, from what Job role you have, How marketable your skill set is, what benefits a permi gets, How much the company want you. ( Do you know everything and the prospect fo loosing you could severely impact them, or are you just a code monkey that can be replaced at the drop of a hat. )

Find out how much you want, then how much your peers in and out of the company get then look at the numbers
