    Hi,

I'm looking for advice on buying either the Morso Squirrel or Waterford Stanley Oisin.
The Morso is coming in at €800 and the Oisin at €400.
A friend has a Morso Squirrel and is very happy with it and I understand that the Squirrel is reputed to be better quality.
But at the end of the day what's the difference between the 2 in real terms, I know people talk about the Oisin being cast in China and that the cast-iron is inferior.
I was wondering if is there anybody out there who may have bought the Oisin and upgraded it to a Squirrel and has seen a noticeable difference in the day to day running costs of the stove, output etc.
I would really appreciate some advice as the stove suppliers are keen to sell the more expensive one.

    Thanks

I have never owned either stove but the morso range have a cracking reputation for quality and function. www.whatstove.co.uk The stove will be made to a far better standard than the stanley and the materials a much better quality. The controls will all work so much better. You do get what you pay for. The morso squirrel if sold second hand will still get a very good return. Have a look on ebay UK.

For me there would be no choice. Morso out of the 2:D

Thank you Stovefan for the information.
If money wasn't an issue, it would be the Morso alright, I have yet to hear any bad report on the Morso but I guess bottom line is - it's twice the price and I wonder would I get the same benefits from the Oisin.
I'm wondering has anybody had an issue with the cast-iron cracking or parts needing to be replaced with the Oisin?
When you mention function, is there anything extra on the Squirrel that creates more heat output, ie. controls over the Oisin?

    Thanks

Just wondering if there any Morso Squirrel owners who can let me know if they think it's worth paying extra for this stove over the Oisin.
I would really appreciate some info from people who have used either stove in their homes.
I know on paper the Morso seems to have established it's market but in real life day to day running of the stoves, is the Oisin just as good.

    Thanks

    Hi Stovefan,

Went out to a few stove places and have decided not to go with the Oisin so it looks like the Morso Squirrel might be the best option.
One of the suppliers was recommending the Hi-Flame Precision 1, as it has a higher efficiency output than the Morso. It is slightly cheaper but I can't find enough information on it so I'm unsure about it.
Have you any thoughts on the Precision 1?

    Thanks

As chance would have it I DID have an oisin and changed it for the squirrel ! My perception was that the oisin pumped out more heat, but the squirrel was still hot late the :)next afternoon, making a new fire a simple task. I actually didn't buy the squirrel as a replacement for the oisin, but to install in another room, which proved impractical.

I've just installed an Oisin, only lit two fires so far small ones to season it, I'm happy enough at the moment, its a standard size living room, we where also torn between the two, budget swung it for us more than anything, we loved the morso but it was also taller and would have meant more work on the fire place, we hope to have the oisin for 4/5 years and budget for a morso, fire back change installation etc, I can let you know how its going in a few weeks when we get bigger fires going in it, we'll only be lighting it for 2/3 hrs some evenings and at the weekends, we've noticed huge improvement in the chimney draw since the stove went in too, room was always cold with the hot air being sucked out, gonna be a cozy winter !

Thanks damian139 - That's great that there was still heat in the Squirrel the next day - I think I'm probably going to go with Squirrel as it does seem to have a great reputation.
I don't know anybody who has used the Hi-Flame Precision 1 so I'm not sure about taking a chance on it as it comes in at €690 so not on the cheaper side either.
Thanks again for your help damian139

Thanks BobMc. Hadn't considered having to knock out the fireback, is this because the depth of Squirrel is bigger than the Oisin, so knocking out the fireback pushes it further back into chimney?

    Thanks

no idea i'm no expert, i'm guessing the fireback gets in the way of the flue pipe, heres how mine turned out

I think if you leave the fireback in the stove needs to come out further on the hearth so removing it would give you more hearth space at the front.
Anyway your stove looks great, its a very neat fit.

I bought a second hand Oisin a few weeks ago for €250 and installed it myself. Loving it so far. I know nothing about the Morso Squirrel though.

3 of my brothers and sisters have the bigger Stanley Erin stoves and swear by them, so thats why I went for the Stanley

That's a great deal getting it secondhand. I saw an Oisin on donedeal yesterday for €260 and it was sold by the afternoon, so they are obviously popular especially if they get such a good price secondhand.
