    With all these apps and now that Rim and ios run with instant messaging, phone companies are going to lose out on texts and money. So would it not just be best for them to focus on broadband.. ?

    They already know this, that's why they're reducing the data allowance on their packages.

    Serves them right. I've been charged 13c to send a text message for years! About time I got something for free.

    How? I get free texts to any network. A lot of people get this kind of thing with a plan.
