I suppose it's not a surprise to many, but it was still a devastating blow to me - Zachary Quinto has confirmed he's gay.
Zachary Quinto has joined the ranks of celebrities like Ricky Martin, Lance Bass and Ellen DeGeneres by publicly admitting he's gay.

In a new interview with New York Magazine, the 34-year-old actor finally reveals the truth about his sexuality.

The actor, best known for playing Spock in the Star Trek reboot and Sylar on Heroes, confirms that he's 'a gay man' in the article.

'As a gay man, it made me feel like there's still so much work to be done, and there's still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed,' he said.

He had refused to confirm rumours until now even in an interview with the New York Times last year.

Despite his decision to remain non-committal about his sexuality until now, he has openly spoken out against bullying, even making a video for the 'It Gets Better' campaign to support victimised gay and lesbian teens.

'And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that? We’re terrified of facing ourselves,' he said in reference to bullying.

He may play a straight, sexual man in his latest role, a cameo in Anna Faris' new film What's Your Number, but Quinto is also known for playing a series of gay parts.

He has appeared as a gay man on Tori spelling's TV show So NoTORIous and currently plays the kinky dead owner of a haunted house on FX's American Horror Story.

Next up for the openly gay actor is the October 21 premiere of his new film, Margin Call.

The thriller revolves around the key people at a investment bank over a 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis and stars Demi Moore, Gossip Girls' Penn Badgley and Paul Bettany.

He will also reprise his role as Spock in the 2012 sequel to his hit 2009 film, Star Trek.
