Hi there I have suffered from social anxeity for approx the last three yrs, now I was on lexapro antidepressant for it last year which worked very well, but am now off it since january 2011, I felt grand for most of this year but the last few weeks are beginning to show a lot of the old symptoms of SA again and I can feel myself descending into that same dark place I was in last year.

So this time I would like to try something different and see if i can nip it in the butt before it gets outta hand again, don't wanna wind up on meds again as they seriously effected my concentration levels the last time.

So would there be any self help books on social anxiety where i could possibly educate myself more on how to combat some of the irrational taught's and feelings that social anxiety bring. I would also like to learn how to use Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help myself as I have herard it has a high success rate...

So would appreciate it you could recommend any books geared towards this problem that you may have read and may have found helpful ...

    Many thanks
    concerned Jim

I recommend reading the Human Givens, its by two Irish cbt trained therapists and uses a cbt based approach.

Try and gey your hands on Overcoming social Anxiety CBT by Dr.Thomas A Richards.

You can download it if internet savvy. Like music.

30 mins a day for many months but its worth it.

    Meditation works for me too.
