Commentator on BBC Match of the Day 2 just said in the interview with Roy Hodgson that Shane long had given the best display of front man this season in the premiership.

Good news for Trapatoni in the lead up to the Estonia game.

He won't play him, he's too attacking for Traps.

Good news indeed, would love to see him start alongside Keane.

We should be looking to put the tie to bed early in Talin and not be chasing anything at the Aviva.

    Isn't Keane injured?

It'll be Cox plus either Walters or Long.

We actually have some great options up top which is nice to see.

Long is our best striker at the moment and it is disgraceful that, should Keane be fit, he'll be left out. Going on club form Long and Walters are the best two!

Walters should start after his impressive 20 min cameo on Tuesday night. Long alongside him and Keane/Cox and Best on the bench

Cox is a more similar layer in style than Keane and his performance the last day fully justified his selection ahead of Long IMO.

Great to see a good young talent coming through, lets hope he keeps it up, cant see Keane being in the mix for much longer

Especially with our long ball, like today for West Brom he would be brilliant chasing them.

    Bit of a stretch tbh.

RVP was probably better than him just today and how many hatricks has Rooney at this stage?

Hodgson talks an awful lot of sh*te in fairiness.

Why do say you hope our all time top scorer is injured for such a huge game?

Think it was the commentator that put it to Woy, and naturally he agreed.

I'm not too sure if Keane will be fit or not.

True Walters is in great form atm for Stoke and Cox has been a revelation in an Irish jersey.

I can understand Cox getting his game over Long as he was immense & hard working last Tuesday night but no way on earth is Walters better than Long. I think Walters is an English (or Oirish) version of arshavin to be honest. Can be good but is lazy with an attitude.
Leon Best is another decent striker being overlooked.

You obviously didn't watch the Newcastle v Spurs game today.

Because I think we will be better off offensively without him tbh. I'm not wishing him to be injured or anything, I would just prefer if he didn't play.

I honestly don't think a lazy Arshavin type player would last long at Stoke or in teh Ireland squad, yet both Trap and Pulis seem to put quite a bit of faith in him. They don't tolerate laziness.

How you can put them together :confused:. Do you watch much of Stoke? Anytime ive watched them he has shown nothing but positive attitude and really really good work ethic.

Edit. Also about Long its got to be a kick in nuts cause Cox is usually behind him at club level which leaves him on the bench but yet gets in front of him at International level? Was watching MOTD2 and Warnock mentioned that Long and Doyle would be great combo (i do too) Why doesnt Trap? There styles are a perfect match for his tactics  long balls.

Long Cox up front:D. I think Walters is a great option on the bench, he did really well against Armenia when he came on held the ball up great when the defence really needed it.

Where is Clinton Morrisson these days? ;)

For Ireland, Trap sees two kinds of striker. Long and Doyle are interchangeable, as are Keane and Cox. If Keane is fit it'll be Keane and Long up front for Tallinn anyway. Walters covers both roles, but I don't think Trap'll start him. Keane/Cox and Long.

Well if Keane doesn't make it back in time then I suppose Cox/Long is the logical choice? I thought Walters, when he came on for Ireland, was really explosive in his play so he would be a great option on the bench. I doubt Trapattoni will start him. Also, could be the opportunity that Leon Best has been waiting for to get into the squad. Would satisfy a few people here.

Ah, he's too busy tearing strips out of Norwegian 1st division defences to be bothering with such low level international games.

Walters works his balls off, hardly a lazy player! I think he is very good.

I remember a big debate here over the summer where celtic fans thought it would be a good career move for him to go to the SPL and he wouldnt get his game in the EPL :pac:

I don't think he was ever granted any sort of forgiveness for opting out of Ireland's end season games at the start of the Summer. I never read of any thaw in relations anyway.

That and the fact that there's at least 5 strikers ahead of him!

You can't say that Long is second choice after one game with Cox in the starting line-up. Long was named to start in the Slovakia/Russia double only to pull out with injury and leave Doyle back in.

Trap likes to play with 1 target man and 1 supporting striker. Keane will always start if fit, which leaves Doyle/Long for the other spot. Cox for Keane was the right shout the other night.

Against Estonia though it will be Long and Keane/Cox.

Long and Walters are the best Irish strikers at this moment. Playing consistently well in the PL and can see them working well as a front pairing together. Doyle hasn't looked good for a long time now imo. His scoring touch seems to have left him and with Walters and Long's form they look to be the best 2. Not a chance Trap will pick them though.

Your memory maybe be playing tricks on you or perhaps you are intentionally spouting shi*e, the rumors at the time were Liverpool were interested and also Arsenal and Celtic fans argued he was not ready for a top 4 team, not the EPL as a whole, and would spend too much time on the bench at either ot those teams.

Rumours gathering on twitter that Arsenal have made an enquiry to WBA. He's out injured for two weeks also.

Think it would be a good move for him personally, I'd say 8 to 10 million would be accepted.

    Bull**** I reckon

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Twitter, always got to take it with a pinch of salt really. The move makes sense though Arsenal are looking for a player like that.

    Is he good enough?

Barring Van Persie, he is easily good enough for the Arsenal squad.

He's a serious footballer, has all the ingredients to be a proper beast of a striker for next 6 years, he needs better players around him though.
